Wassaic to Lake Waramaug Ride is ON
Right now the forecast is decent for the morning, and decent enough for the afternoon. Check the message board in the morning to make sure, but if no posting assume it's a go!
Saturday's ClimBathon (B-ride) ...moved to Sunday. Come if you want.
The original weather forecast was for 20% less likelihood of rain on Sunday than on Saturday and 5 degree cooler temperature. So the ride has been changed to Sunday (and since then the predicted rain is now only 10% less likely and the difference in temp. only 2 degrees).
No limits on participants at this late hour, but let me know if you are coming. Use the e-mail icon.
Sunday. 8:30. Boathouse. 60 mile. 18MPH. 6 uphills.
Looking for company on a Sunday scouting ride (B16-18)
Please let me know if you're interested in joining me on a scouting ride this Sunday.
I'm thinking meeting at Grants Tomb at 9:30am, over the bridge, River road (HH Dr), salmon down, do it again, up 9W to Palasades, and Piermont Road back home. Something like this, but I'd like to explore a bit on the way back south to see if there is better. http://ridewithgps.com/routes/1501805. (Thanks to Gil for creating this for me). It's 51 mi if the hill repeat goes all the way back to the start of River Road.
Garmin satellite acquisition issues
I have a Garmin Edge 500 and it has been taking a extrordianry length of time to acquire satelites, typcially up to 15 or 20 minutes on a clear day regardless of weather/cloud cover. I expect it to take a bit longer in manhattan where I live due to high buildings and narrow streets, however this seems excessive. When I first got the device it would only take 90-120 seconds to acquire even on the narrow street that I live on. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there any way to fix it? Some kind of reset perhaps?
Brooklyn to West Side Greenway advice
I'm bike-commuting from the Upper West side to the Brooklyn Navy yards on a folding bike. Public transpo is terrible to there. My goal is a fun, calm ride, speed not a big issue. Have been doing it in 50 minutes and public transpo is 90 minutes.
I'm currently using the Brooklyn Bridge which works well in the morning but is very crowded in the evening. I'm also confused by what route you're supposed to take from the Bridge back to the West Side. I don't like the way the bike path spills you out into traffic coming off the bridge and confused by how you're supposed to get over to the west side. Currently slowly salmoning or walking bike through city Hall Park over to Warren street to head back west.
Bike Lane still included in latest Tappan Zee bridge plan

Easy route to Bear Montain??
Need some advice/insight
My son wants to ride to Bear Mountain on his hybrid. I heard going up 9W is the easiest, safest
way to get there. Can someone expand on that or suggest a better route?? Thanks for your help.

Who was the real Bruce Reynolds? Read about him here.
I could have nested this in the thread (there's a mixed metaphor for you) about the Ft. Lee police ticketing us and our being told to go past the bridge and make a U-turn at Bruce Reynolds Blvd...but I didn't because I don't want this to be lost in that long thread; it, or he, is deserving of its own.
Please read who Bruce Reynolds was that Ft. Lee named a street for him. It makes me feel somewhat better about invoking his name and even turning at "his" street.
