GFNY Road Closure Info for Sunday May 18th
Following is information on how to navigate around the road closures during the Gran Fondo New York on Sunday, May 18th, 2025. I have received this information from Uli Fluhme—co-founder and co-organizer of the event.
Hudson Terrace will be closed all day.
Access to River Road (Henry Hudson Drive) is closed from the night before until 3pm from both entrances (Edgewater and Alpine).
Therefore, cyclists coming from NYC off the GWB bike path will be guided by police across Hudson Terrace to Bruce Reynolds Boulevard and Lemoine Avenue. From there, they can continue on 9W. Return is the same way.
9W is closed from Alpine to Nyack from 7am to 9.30am. The detour is Closter Dock Road down to Piermont Road / 340.

Cycling in Italy?
I know quite a few of you had done some cycling trips in Italy.
If I were to spend a month in Italy, where are the worthy area to consider? And the differences (if you've been over more than once)?
I know Tuscony is high on the list. Looking at more options, as I have a month.
Saturday's C-STS Cuomo Bridge ride postponed to Sunday
The rain forecast for tomorrow, Saturday, 4/26, is bad.
Sunday's weather will be cool but dry.
We hope you can join us Sunday, 4/27/25.
Police ticketing on First Avenue?
Today, around 3pm, while headed up to Conrad's twice I saw the NYPD stopping a couple of cyclists in the bike lane on First Avenue at 36th Street.. The first was on a high-speed delivery e-bike and the second was on a regular non-powered bike.
I don't know for certain if they issued tickets but the second time they were clearly looking at her cell phone for ID info etc.
Do you smell smoke? New Jersey wildfires.
Notify NYC reports wildfires in NJ. Go to nyc.gov/airquality for more info.
Why we can't have nice things, Rockaway Beach broadwalk version.
Co-leader for C rides out of Poughkeepsie?
Last year's New Paltz weekend, I went on a speedy C ride (officially C, if you know what I mean). Some of the riders said they love the roads very much. They wish they get to ride it more often than one weekend a year. They would even be willing to do the train ride to Poughkeepsie and train back. Or so they say anyway. So maybe, just maybe, there're interests for C pace rides in Ulster county?
This time of year is also when I go ride in Ulster county. After I come out of my winter hibernation, I'm not quite a "B" rider yet. The roads in Ulster are less hilly than Westchester, so good for building base miles. I could lead some C pace rides in Ulster county, to help bring more variety to C riders (or at least the stronger contingent of the "C"s).
