Cycling's British Invasion in the NY TImes

Interesting article including a statistic about Jamie Staff, the US track sprint manager and former racer for Britain. When he was racing, his thighs were so big that his wife's skirts fit snug around one of them.
Time for NYCC to step up to the plate
While we are waiting for the matter of cyclist vs. Ft. Lee to work its way through the court system, would it not be in NYCC members interest to work with the Ft. Lee Traffic Department and offer to offset the cost to Ft. Lee for signage and street markings known as #sharrow" for the approach to the GW bridge.
By doing so it shows that we as a cyclists are willing to work with the town of Ft. Lee over a perceived problem and 2 it shames them into putting into place a safer environment for cyclists as well as cars which meets the criteria of NJ complete streets program.
Meet other young bike lovers!
Who could forget the first time they stepped on a two-wheel bike and balanced for the first time?
Freedom, speed, independence, and joy were at their fingertips! It's a life-changing moment. And a moment that many New Yorkers have never experienced. Thousands of New Yorkers have never had the chance to learn how to ride a bicycle.
Bike ticketing rant/map
Unfortunately, at the beginning of a group ride this past saturday, I got a ticket for stopping at a red light, then rolling through with no cars/pedestrians in sight (two others with me also got tickets) along riverside drive around Columbia. The cop said that he had to due to people complaining and they had to show they were present. The cop was also "generous" and only gave a rules of the road violation which maxes at $50 as opposed to a traffic ticket with a min of $190. I asked the cop that even though we came to a complete stop, checked, then rolled through he had to ticket us (mind you, while stopped, over ~30 cyclist ran the exact same redlight 50ft behind us). He again said he had to cause people were calling in and complaining.
Bike safety research
Considering I'm from Iowa and try to stay in touch with what is going there (although i went to ISU which has the VRAC, instead of UofI), this is still an interesting article about bike safety.

Spot open on July 29 Greenwood Lake ride
I had to withdraw (and thought I did it a week ago).
So there's a spot open on the sign-up page, for the mah-velous Mitch ride July 29--he's the host with the most, if you don't already know.
Please, someone take my place and tell me about it later, so I can at least enjoy it vicariously.
Need Roundtrip Route for Bridgehampton to Montauk
Hi all,
I will be in Bridgehampton this weekend (7/27) and would like to do a 30-40 mile ride. Anyone know of a ride I can do?
Thanks in advance!
