nbc news this morning (not good)

Submitted by TBrilliant on Thu, 08/16/2012 - 7:18am

anybody see that story this morning on about 6:45 this morning? a famous blind lawyer who was in the city training for the nyc marathon (he's done 14 or something) was struck from behind by a "speeding" cyclist in cp. is in hospital with facial injuries and broken hip and sounds like he's on a rampage to stop "speeding" cyclists. no other details were given. more bad publicity for cp cyclists. the story doesn't indicate when this happened.

Wednesday laps on a Thursday?? It's madness! But that's how we roll in Brooklyn.

Due to to the today's rain we're meeting tomorrow, same time, same location. It is relisted on the ride board.

Stupid question re: HH repeats

Submitted by edeuser on Wed, 08/15/2012 - 10:19am

Is the only accepted/recommended protocol for doing Harlem Hill repeats to descent the backside of HH (southbound on West Dr.), and then turn left on the traverse, therby coming back through the East Dr. descent to the base of HH (i.e. making a big ~1 mile loop)?  Or is salmoning back down from the top of HH acceptable during times when the park is less crowded?

Recommend me a chain lock for my commuter bike

Submitted by edeuser on Wed, 08/15/2012 - 10:14am

Looking for an additional lock for my commuter.  Right now i keep the bike in my apartment, but will be moving it to my building's secure bicycle storage room.  However, my building still requires us to have a chain lock on the bike when it is parked in the bike room.

Dura-ace chain symmetrical or assymetrical

Submitted by QuakePhil on Wed, 08/15/2012 - 9:35am

Does it matter which side to install a dura-ace chain?

The bike shop at piermont, adjusting my shifting, first thing they said was the chain was on the wrong side and that this would add to bad shifting.  He pointed out line marks near on the chain (if looking at the top chain, on the inside, the markswere vertical and facing the crankset) and the trademark text on the inside, which should have been on the outside.

All Class ride question

Submitted by DHudes on Wed, 08/15/2012 - 12:58am

What is the anticipated departure time, how long do we hang out at the beach as a group (obviously anyone can leave early or stay late)? Is it reasonable to expect a return to Manhattan by 5PM? 6PM?

Normally I just look at distance and pace but this is more than a 30 - 40 minute diner stop it's a serious dawdle (which is the point).
