Thanks to Pat Mullen for the round Shelter Island Ride

Submitted by Sir Roger on Tue, 08/07/2012 - 8:25am

So there were a few of you who signed up for Pat Mullen's round Shelter Island ride on saturday and you dropped out. I am assuming because of the dark clouds. Well my buddy John and I saw the same clouds but also saw them lift as we arrived in Greenport at the start of a beautiful day and a great well thought out ride. This is the second year I have participated in the round the island, about 60 miles of gentle swoopies.. its not a very challenging ride.. but who wants that when it is so hot out.

A big thank you to Pat for the ride. He knows the best roads.. no traffic super surfaces.. Next year do yourselves a favour and get out to the Island. I know its a long drive to the start but for my money it is well worth it to spend a day on Terra Nova.

NJT does 'shock and awe'

“After gathering valuable input from members of the cycling community, we worked to make some common-sense changes that help make NJ TRANSIT one of the most bicycle-friendly systems in the region,” said Commissioner Simpson.  “By implementing designated bike trains on weekends on most of our rail lines, in addition to the regular weekend trains, we are providing capacity for up to 7,200 bicycles on Saturdays and Sundays combined.”

"It's called Steady State. Look it up!"

To the woman in the pizza parlor kit in Central Park who mouthed the above quote to me this afternoon as she passed me:  I passed you when I was "on" a rep during my interval regimen.  Then you passed me as I was recovering in between reps.  Apparently you felt that I was competing with you.  I was not.  It's called VO2Max intervals.  Look it up! ;).

Pedalng.com is looking for an editor for our newsletter. Please contact [email protected] if you are interested in working 8-10 hours/month for $10/hour on the Pedaling.com newsletter.

Both the Fort Lee and Englewood Cliffs Police Departments inform us that Hudson Terrace will be closed completely, heading northbound from the GWB for most of Saturday.

Since Ross Dock is a transition area, River Road will also be closed.

Coming off the bridge into NJ, cyclists will only be permitted to head south.

700x25c Tire recommendations?

Submitted by edeuser on Mon, 08/06/2012 - 2:13pm

I’m planning to ride this event in September, for which “Flat-resistant 25c or 26c tires are strongly recommended”: http://www.alpineloopgranfondo.com/information.html  I am also looking for a pair of winter/bad weather training tires.  Any recommendations for a durable, long-lasting tire that will meet both of these needs.  Thanks!

Some good news

Despite the bickering and general complaints we as cyclist have in NYC (and abroad).  There is some excitement when good news is found relating to cycling.

Lets hope this spreads!
