Recommendation for Smart Trainer

Submitted by NBorden on Fri, 09/25/2020 - 1:50am

I'm thinking about getting a smart training stand..I've never had any kind of bike trainer since

I used the health club bike  – no longer an option.   Any suggestions or advice would be

appreciated. Also, ease of installing and un-installing.

Thank you.

Roof rack theft in NYC?

Submitted by NYC_Cyclist_3810 on Thu, 09/24/2020 - 8:37pm

Has anyone experienced theft of their roof rack in NYC?  Not theft of a bike from a roof rack, but the roof rack itself. Mostly asking about Manhattan, but any experience from the five boroughs would be interesting.

I live on the Upper East (Yorkville) and had Thule Aerobars and pair of Rocky Mounts bike trays for three years before they were stolen in 2019. The racks had lock cores, but the racks are mounted on clamps that are easy to hammer or pry off even when locked.

This Sunday 9/27 Come Represent for Cyclists on the Queensboro Bridge!

Submitted by Steve Vaccaro on Thu, 09/24/2020 - 11:29am

If you can please attend an important demonstration to give the southern roadway of the Queensboro Bridge over to cyclists! (That way the pedestrians can be left to themselves on the northern roadway). The demonstration begins at 10:00 am Sunday morning at Honey Locust Park, East 59th Street between First and Second Avenues.  All the major bike and related organizations are on board and working to turn people out, should be a powerful event.

New Rider!

Submitted by corkyj510 on Thu, 09/24/2020 - 11:10am

Hey All

I just joined NYCC. Been riding a lot this summer, but am new to the group. I don't have a ton of group cycling experience as I've just done rides with a friend all summer.  Would love to get some rides going as soon as possible. If anyone wants to link up and go for a ride let me know!

Thanks,

-Corey

Liviu is 70 today.

Without exaggeration, Liviu Goldenberg is riding better, stronger now than at any time I recall in the last, is it ten years? More?

Our club is aging so that turning 70 is no longer the signal achievement it was years ago but perhaps nevertheless worth noting. (As is the 50th anniversary a few days ago of Liviu's having arrived here in the US from his first 20 years living under communism--perhaps a more meaningful anniversary.)

Rider's Block!

NYC Parks Department will shut down HRG from 100 to 125 Street for repaving beginning September 28.  End date uncertain.

Bike Trail in Van Cortlandt Park

Submitted by RWechsler on Mon, 09/21/2020 - 5:15pm

Riding from the UWS to Pelham pretty often these days (to babysit my Granddaughter), and trying to find the best route without too much Bronx traffic.
Tried to get on the trail that links to the South County Trail in Westchester today. So, I was in VC Park and near the lake and golf course.  Huge fences that were impenetrable had signs on them that the trail was closed.
Any work-around (or walk-around) suggestions most helpful. Thank you.
(Meanwhile, I wound up going north along the west side of the park, and onto the trail in Yonkers. Problem is that the roads north of the park going East are pretty awful.)

Crossing US-6/Palisades to Continue onto Seven Lakes Drive

Submitted by johnvic on Thu, 09/17/2020 - 3:41pm

I seem to remember that cyclists would cross US-6/Palisades to continue on Seven Lakes Drive in order to get to Bear Mountain, although it may have been illegal. Is this true? If so, is it currently being enforced? Here is a picture of that area for what I want to do:
