last minute ride listing

Submitted by michael on Fri, 11/06/2020 - 10:01am

I listed a ride yesterday and then I had to revise it to make a necessary correction. Anyway, it’s a last minute thing and I don’t want to ride this on my own. Let me know if you are interested in joining.

I don’t know if you can see this: https://nycc.org/node/136417

If not, here are the details:

Harriman Scenery and Stuff

Starting at The Eleanor statue at 72nd and Riverside Drive.

OK so the truth of it is that there’s an epic 3-mile descent starting at about mile 59. This whole ride is about those three miles - which may not be as epic as I remember them. Memory is a tricky thing. We’ll see.

For those of you leading rides, or just out riding, and looking for dining options other than parks when cold weather sets in, check out NYC's Open Restaurants interactive map.  This map shows restaurants in the 5 boroughs that have licenses to operate street or sidewalk dining through the winter.  There are nearly 3,000 restaurants listed.  Many of the restaurants that provide outdoor dining have heat lamps, bubbles, or other arrangements to deal with the cold.

Wheels

Submitted by MFulton on Wed, 11/04/2020 - 1:47pm

I have an old (~8-9 years), cheap Alex/Tiagra wheelset that I'm ready to replace and possibly upgrade. This last time I repacked them, they are impossible to dial in--either too much play or way too tight, and they don't roll well no matter what.

Any recommendations for a relatively affordable (~$300, give or take) wheelset that's suitable for a 200 lb rider? I'm scared to buy a low spoke count wheel, but I'm not sure if it's really that big an issue.

Do any local shops sell decent wheels in this range?

How much of a laughingstock will I be if I go on a C ride without clip-in biking shoes?

Hip Rehab? Any experiences to share?

Submitted by ty111 on Sun, 11/01/2020 - 4:39pm

Do any of you folks who’ve had hip surgery/replacement have any tips on rehab? I have been given the go ahead to ride my trainer next week, so I was wondering how much, if at all, you change your setup.

Raise bars, etc etc.

And how long did you wait to get outside?. I don’t have an elevator so one issue is being allowed to lift any real weight, like over 10 lbs or so. I would need to carry my bike down a flight  of stairs and a stoop.

I’d  be grateful for any and all tips and personal experiences.

Thanks !

Looking for a trainerroad referral...

As the topic says... looking to boost myself from a lowly C level rider to mid-upper B's and I wanted to try out trainerrroad. If anyone's got a referral code, that would be awesome!

What's the current status of the Hudson Greenway?  Has construction been completed on the section north of Cherry Walk?

2020 ENY Jersey Too Small

Submitted by bcohen11 on Tue, 10/27/2020 - 8:37pm

I purchased a large men's jersey this year that unfortunately is too small for me.  Does anyone have an XL for trade?  Mine is never used, still with tags and in its plastic bag.  Thanks.  Bob
