NYCC Ride Leader Jacket Too Large
I received a 2019 Ride Leader Jacket (XL) that is too large for me. It's brand new has not be used. If anyone has a large and wants to swap let me know. Thanks. Paul H.
The Jacket has found a new home.
Nov 7-10 has been the best 4 day period for biking in this month the 25 years I've been in the club!--gorgeous weather +++
Sat- Jim Finder and Jackie G led us from Cold Spring across the BM bridge into Harriman to Perkins. The gate before the climb was locked so that eliminated the usual weekend flood of cars and motorcycles. The view from the top was stunning! When we arrived at the summit just as Biden was declared the winner by CNN so the celebration up there reminded me a little like the end of WWII! (30 miles) Most cyclists took the train to & from Cold Spring.
Bike Computer: Wahoo versus Gamin
Hi all,
I need to replace my Garmin 820. I found it useless for navigation. One of my issues was seeing the screen. Instead I would use my "talking" phone (which sometimes I wouldn't hear - LOL!)
Looking for advice on a bike computer to be used for navigation for my gravel bike. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!!!
Celebration of Life for Alex Bekkerman
Thursday, November 12, is Alex Bekkerman’s birthday. It is also almost 7 months since Alex passed in April during the strict Covid lockdown.
Meeting raffles: an argument against them on this club election day.
There was a thread entitled “Who Runs This Joint?” https://nycc.org/2021-Board-Descriptions. Under the section: Vice President Programs - Steve Vaccaro, it states: The VP of Programs …will organize and manage Club meetings, which entails lining up … raffle items….
Beacon Newburgh Bike path status
Does anyone have information on whether or not the path is closed. I think someone said it was closed but not sure when or for how long. Trying to plan a loop from Bear Mountain.
The Orchards
The Orchards, you probably know it, the great fresh fruit and vegetable and bakery in Pomona, NY. It has been one of the favorite stops of the New York Cycle Club for years. Also, they are so so so nice to us. One time, for an Escape New York event, I drove a tuck to The Orchards to pick up a ton of stuff they were contributing to our big event. I seem to recall they do that every year. Well, I was up there this past Sunday, had some typical great snacks when a Manager came by . . . .
Query to all you wheel builder types:
I have a Dahon Speed Pro using 406 rims. The rear hub is a SRAM ‘Dual Drive’ with a three speed internal hub and a cog. The spokes are +/-164mm and use a ‘J-Bend’. Hub spoke count is 28. The non-drive side is a radial pattern and the drive side is a 2 cross. The holes in the rim are not offset, all holes are centered.
I recently replaced a broken spoke lacing it exactly as the old spoke had been laced. When installed I hear creaking from the rear wheel and the creaking is apparently caused by rubbing at the crossing of the trailing and pulling spoke. This is a new creak only noticed after the spoke replacement. A couple of curiosities for the drive side lacing:
