Cycling in Italy?

Submitted by April on Sat, 04/26/2025 - 9:41am

I know quite a few of you had done some cycling trips in Italy.

If I were to spend a month in Italy, where are the worthy area to consider? And the differences (if you've been over more than once)?

I know Tuscony is high on the list. Looking at more options, as I have a month.

Police ticketing on First Avenue?

Submitted by George_S on Wed, 04/23/2025 - 5:50pm

Today, around 3pm, while headed up to Conrad's twice I saw the NYPD stopping a couple of cyclists in the bike lane on First Avenue at 36th Street..  The first was on a high-speed delivery e-bike and the second was on a regular non-powered bike.

I don't know for certain if they issued tickets but the second time they were clearly looking at her cell phone for ID info etc.

Co-leader for C rides out of Poughkeepsie?

Submitted by April on Sat, 04/19/2025 - 4:20pm

Last year's New Paltz weekend, I went on a speedy C ride (officially C, if you know what I mean). Some of the riders said they love the roads very much. They wish they get to ride it more often than one weekend a year. They would even be willing to do the train ride to Poughkeepsie and train back. Or so they say anyway. So maybe, just maybe, there're interests for C pace rides in Ulster county?

This time of year is also when I go ride in Ulster county. After I come out of my winter hibernation, I'm not quite a "B" rider yet. The roads in Ulster are less hilly than Westchester, so good for building base miles. I could lead some C pace rides in Ulster county, to help bring more variety to C riders (or at least the stronger contingent of the "C"s).

River Road Update

Submitted by RSchmon on Sat, 04/19/2025 - 10:54am

River Road is now fully open.  The Dykman Hill ascent is largely on brick/pave but no problem to ride.  Open to cars as well, but there were very few on the Dykman Hill to Alpine stretch.

Has the road in CP been completely paved yet? And if not, what area is milled? Many thanks.
