GFNY Road Closure Info for Sunday May 18th

Submitted by RSchmon on Tue, 04/29/2025 - 10:43am

Following is information on how to navigate around the road closures during the Gran Fondo New York on Sunday, May 18th, 2025.  I have received this information from Uli Fluhme—co-founder and co-organizer of the event.

Hudson Terrace will be closed all day.

Access to River Road (Henry Hudson Drive) is closed from the night before until 3pm from both entrances (Edgewater and Alpine).

Therefore, cyclists coming from NYC off the GWB bike path will be guided by police across Hudson Terrace to Bruce Reynolds Boulevard and Lemoine Avenue. From there, they can continue on 9W. Return is the same way.

9W is closed from Alpine to Nyack from 7am to 9.30am. The detour is Closter Dock Road down to Piermont Road / 340.

Possible New Jersey Transit Strike Starting May 16th

Submitted by John Z on Wed, 05/14/2025 - 4:11pm

"As a result of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers (BLET) membership voting down a tentative agreement reached between NJ TRANSIT and BLET leadership, the BLET is threatening to disrupt the lives of more than 350,000 commuters by calling for a strike as early as Friday, May 16.  This would result in the complete suspension of NJ TRANSIT rail service, including Metro-North west of Hudson service."

Safety on the Brooklyn Bridge

Submitted by rdaileymd on Wed, 04/30/2025 - 5:50pm

I ride daily on the Brooklyn bridge bike path as do many others. The curve is very dangerous as it is blind to oncoming traffic and many riders attempt to pass not realizing the danger. A special concern exists due to the high volume of inexperienced tourists on city ebikes who are going too fast for there skill level who, further, don't have helmets. It is only a matter of time until someone is killed in a head-on collision. It would be great if NYCC would advocate for signs stating "Do not pass on the curve." A special yellow line on the curve might also help. This won't stop everyone from dangerous passing, but it certainly could reduce the number of attempts and make the ride safer.

I am planning to join the Berkshires weekend  -- but I do not have a car or a means to get anything upto the Berkshires if I ride up. If anyone has room in their car for a ( small) bag -I would be very grateful.

Looking for riding partners in Prospect Park

Submitted by Ada on Wed, 04/30/2025 - 2:14pm

Hello, I just moved close to Flatbush and I'm thrilled to be so close to Prospect Park. I see that we have groups that do laps in PP but they meet too early in the morning for me. I would love to bike with others later in the day, perhaps between 8 and 11am. Maybe a regular Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and/or Saturday routine? Right now, I'm a C-rider with the goal of becoming a B-rider. I'm flexible about meeting time and place, number of laps, pace, etc -- just very keen to get out there every week with other people!
