conflicting info from Amtrak regarding bikes on trains

Submitted by Myles Lewis on Sun, 08/16/2020 - 10:41pm

Not sure if the bikes on board section of Amtrak needs to be updated but recently a conductor on the Adirondack line (the run that runs up the Hudson River from NYC to Albany and places further north) upon my asking said they allow bikes provided the owner has a bike ticket ($20). This line wasn't listed as one that permits bikes (only a few do across the country). If the conductor was correct it will certainly open up more bike travel opportunities. Here are pics from that train:

Rick Jones, skier, frame-builder, bike shop owner (Road Runner Bicycles, Glen Cove NY) and all-around nice guy, passed away suddenly on Friday. 40 years old. No details. Sad.

Now that ENY is cancelled, what's gonna happen to the ENY kit (jersey) that we ordered? Are we gonna get the kit or a refund?

scooters and motorcycles on the GWB path with license plates

Submitted by Myles Lewis on Wed, 08/12/2020 - 12:38pm

Has anyone noticed scooters and / or motorcycles on the GWB bike path that actually have license plates? I noticed a couple smallish motorcycles a couple weeks ago and I am hearing that others have seen scooters. I don't think any vehicle with a license plate should be using the path. This is probably being done to avoid the toll and / or traffic or in a scooters case for their safety for they wouldn't manage too well on a busy highway. There seems to often be Port Authority cop cars on the NJ side but I am not sure if there are usually cops in them nor is it certain if they would stop and summons these riders. Is there a good way to complain to the PA and make them aware of this and do enforcement?

RIVER ROAD REPORT: Today's PIPC police lie to me.

Submitted by RRosenthal on Tue, 08/11/2020 - 6:26pm

Around 6AM, a PIPC officer assured me on the phone that River Road was clear and rideable. It is not. The devastation of the storm is enormous and will be long lasting. You'll climb over and under fallen trees and be almost continuously dodging thick debris and rock. Lesson #1: Don't fuck with Nature. Lesson #2: Police can, uh, umm, mis-speak. Having identified myself as one of those cyclists who are such a nemesis to them, I wonder if his assurance was for his own amusement to screw a cyclist.

It appears to me that number of users seems to be decllning as novelty wears off
