Ride To Oyster Bay - Ameneties

Submitted by YoniKochavi on Sun, 07/26/2020 - 10:48pm

We had a nice ride out to Oyster Bay.

Please be aware that the usual warm weather lunch spot, Teddy Roosevelt Park by the marina, is closed to non-Oyster Bay residents. There is an abundance of open space, but the town wants to resrict the crowds. There are still plenty of open spaces to eat lunch. We ate in the gazebo outside of town hall on Main Street. Sweet Tomatoes restaurant is open and doing their typical great job.

The bathrooms are open at Cunningham Park on the outbound route, but not the Little Neck Starbucks' along the LIE service road. Use Panera Bread's facilities in the same shopping center.

Lawyer Recommendations for Accident

Submitted by onlyoneam on Sun, 07/26/2020 - 12:23am

Hi All, I was involved in an accident on my bike on 9 West. Thankfully I came away with minimal injuries, but my bike was broken into pieces. Does anyone know any lawyers that specialize in cyclist accidents? I'm new to the area and want to ask directly before I jump into a google search.

Happy 90th Birthday, Geo Kaplan, 3X club president (1993-'94-'95)

You know from reading this MB, Geo is still a very active presence in the club. Were you to speak with him, you would be astonished by the youthfulness, the energy, the clarity, the enthusiasm of his voice--truly that of a youngster in  every respect. Really.

Happy Birthday, Geo. But don't go riding today. It'll be hot.

Hardenburgh was open today

We were prepared to work around construction on Hardenburgh but found out, to our pleasant surprise, that it was open. There were no signs of ongoing construction just shut down over the weekend.

Lamont Observatory is closed unless you have a Columbia ID

Submitted by jzisfein on Fri, 07/24/2020 - 7:37pm

The guard wouldn't let us into Lamont without Columbia University ID. He said it is now a permanent restriction.

Lamont was part of my favorite route to Tallman Mountain Park and Piermont.

You can still get to Tallman by staying on 9W, making a R on Washington Spring Rd (at the traffic signal, opposite Oak Tree Rd), then 1st L onto Woods Rd. https://goo.gl/maps/ytqUhXKnyyidWbhn8

Or if you want to pick up some goodies at 9W Market there's another entrance to Tallman just beyond.

Riding from Poughkeepsie to Hudson, NY and in the Hudson area

Submitted by Myles Lewis on Thu, 07/23/2020 - 2:25pm

Hello all,

I will be spending a week in Hudson and will be riding up from the Poughkeepsie MN station. Google Maps has me cycling the 42 miles on Route 9 to get there. Anyone have any experience riding on that stretch of RT 9 as far as how bicycle friendly it is and if an alternate route would be preferable? For example, 9G runs parallel to RT 9 for a good stretch.
Also any recommend routes or areas to ride to and around in the Hudson area? Thanks in advance!
