Pan-Mass Challenge?

Submitted by Diana713 on Mon, 07/22/2013 - 7:26pm

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone is participating in the Pan-Mass Challenge the weekend of Aug. 3-4 in Massachusetts (http://www2.pmc.org/home.asp).  I plan on taking Amtrak up there and boxing my bike, but if anyone was planning on participating and was driving there with a bike rack would definitely be happy to pay for gas money, tolls, etc. in exchange for a lift!

Thanks,

Diana

Website glitch

I'm a member of the club. As you can see by my ability to post here, the website overall recognizes me as a paid-up member, recognizes its cookie in my computer and recognizes my log-in.

Yet, a few minutes ago, I clicked on today's (Monday 7/27) e-newsletter to learn more about all those fabulous photos I can see, some of which might even be photographs I've taken, and received the message: "ACCESS DENIED You are not authorized to access this page."

OT Query -- Biking to Central Park Summerstage?

Submitted by DMC on Mon, 07/22/2013 - 8:17am

Hi all,

I'm taking my teenage son to a Summerstage concert tonight (hoping it's dry). He commutes to his summer job on his bike and does not have time to take it home before the concert. I'm not sure where or if he can lock it up at Central Park Summerstage if he rides from work to there. Anyone have experience with this? Thank you in advance for the help.

B16 ride averaged 14.1MPH yesterday. A previous B16 ride averaged 13MPH.

I have heard it said that the average moving MPH of a ride should be 3 less than the rating of the ride.  Is that true? What is the rationale?  Just trying to understand it.

Great Swamp ... Neat ride.

Kudos to Mitch Rubinstein on a cunning watchmaker's cue.  Fluid and rolling with 2K climbing over 55 miles that wound around Great Swamp before ejecting us north.  The perfect groove after a sweltering layoff.

Very tolerable weather, a B16 crew that hung tight, and bovine bliss at Denville Dairy boxed the compass.

Very surprising sighting in Piermont Bikes today: Beth Herman

If you weren't in the club before 1995, Beth's name won't mean anything to you. She looks GREAT. Really fabulous--and I would say that even if she didn't read our message board...which she tells me she does. She moved to SF in 1995. Has recently returned to the U.S. after living in Rome for two years. Her husband, born in Crete, works for an agricultural agency of the UN. They have two children, twelve and ten, and live in Briarcliff Manor. Beth swore me to confidentiality as to the bike she was buying for herself.

Hudson Terrace, GWB, Fort Lee Police: It's deja vu all over again!

Submitted by BRoss on Sat, 07/20/2013 - 12:51pm

Got stopped today by a friendly Fort Lee police officer for...well, I'm not sure exactly what for, but it had something to do with not moving to the left in the officially proscribed manner while trying to get onto the George Washington Bridge from Hudson Terrace southbound.

Sound familiar?
