Oh, Lance, Mr. Girardi would like to offer you his counsel.

"He had a hard time gripping the baseball. Unknown to us, he put (illegal pine tar on his pitching hand) and went out there," Girardi said. "It's a young kid. I don't think he's trying to...cheat. I think he's just trying to go out there and compete."

question: what is the best bike route to Paterson NJ from GWB??

Submitted by chfong on Tue, 04/22/2014 - 11:21pm

Hi,

What is the best bike  route to ride from George Washington Bridge to Paterson,NJ to see the waterfalls and back?  In particular to the Paterson Great Falls National Historic Park at 72 McBride Avenue, Paterson, NJ. Even though I'm a NYer ( grew up in the Big Apple ), sad to say I'm not familar with NJ at all, not much beyond GWB. My family never had a car and we never had a reason to visit NJ.

GPS/Garmin Courses Craziness

Submitted by richardembry on Tue, 04/22/2014 - 9:37pm

I am a B-SIG rider and a new user of a Garmin 800. I am having a crazy experience with the directions given on some of the SIG rides and wonder if anyone has any suggestions.

As an example, when we ride on a Westcester ride and head out of the Park north on Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. Blvd the Garmin will tell me to turn right onto each and every east bound street from 110th to 135th. I get simlarly plain wrong turn directions once we were out near Bayville. It seems like the turn signals are only correct about 20% of the time.

I don't know if I have a setting wrong or if there is a problem with my unit. Any suggestions? Thanks, Richard

Odd Mechanical

Weird thing happened...the lower pulley wheel on my rear derailleur cracked and the crack opened up, creating a gap between two teeth.  I was wondering why my shifting had gotten rough!  I'm having the pulley wheel replaced.  Has anyone ever had that happen?

So exciting. . .  .Paula Froke and Tim (Timbo) McCarthy – engaged to be married!   Wow!  Paula took her career to Seattle, Timbo changed his career and is fast becoming a bicycle scientist (he’s always been a great rider), they buy a house, and now engaged.  I’m not sure, is that called “full plate”?  If anyone can do all that, Paula and Tim are the ones.

How exciting!!!  Heartfelt congratulations to one of the NYCC’s coolest couples ever!

The NYCC, once again, a the center of a better life!

Central Park Ambulance vs. 911

Submitted by LPress on Tue, 04/22/2014 - 10:56am

I witnessed a cyclist crash today in Central Park when a dog ran across the road and collided with the bike. I had saved the number for Central Park ambulance (212-585-0911) from a prior post that reccomended calling them over 911.  I called the CP ambulance, however someone else had called 911 and an ambulance from Lennox Hill arrived first. The cyclist was banged up, waited for the ambulance but ultimately decided to decline services. The owner of the dog stayed on site.

Question- I thought the EMT or Paramedic normally would put a backboard on an injured rider, this wasn't their approach. Also- it was only at my suggestion that they examined the guy's helmet.
