BERKSHIRES -- B/C recovery ride on Monday the 26th

Submitted by JFinder on Thu, 05/01/2014 - 2:56pm

I'll be staying in the Berks for an extra day, through Monday (Mem. Day) the 26th.

EDITED:  See the Ride Listings.  We have scheduled a 15mph ride on Monday the 26th.  It's a flat, short ride, so it's appropriate for experienced B and C riders who can easily maintain 15.

The first part of the ride is a 20 mile loop from Sheffield to Umpachene Falls.  Casual scenic recovery ride.

If you have time after that, we'll head north for lunch at the Norman Rockwell museum, an additional 14 miles.  Lunch is catered by the Red Lion Inn.

Canti brake wizards?

Submitted by arvi on Thu, 05/01/2014 - 2:52pm

Which shops have you found to be good at setting up canti brakes? They can be fiddly and things like straddle wire height matter a lot to getting things just right. Who has nailed it for you in the past?

Sunday AM It happened on S Little Tor.  According to the Rockland Times, "Several  of the bicyclists (chased and) eventually boxed  the driver on  N Main St and stopped him"  The group  cycles around the area every Sunday and  the Times didn't mention anything about a bike club affiliation.    Misdemearnor charges against the driver might be upgraded to a felony.  The victim was taken to Nyack Hospital and subsequently was transferred to  Westchester Medical Center which has more facilities for treating and rehabiltating  patients with moderate to serious injuries.  He is expected to remain there for at least several more days and have  heavy rehab after.

Route advice: Poughkeepsie area

Submitted by EJacobs on Tue, 04/29/2014 - 6:35pm

Dear all, I need to get to the Kingston area from the Poughkeepsie train station around rush hour on Friday.

What is 9W like on that stretch? Should I shoot north on 9W, or take smaller roads?

Google maps wants me to go five miles out of my way and swing west (the hilly direction, away from the Hudson) to take the Wallkill Valley Rail trail. I don't think so.

Any advice gratefully accepted,

-Erica
