I was thinking of taking the metro north as close as possible and then riding to Sheffield Saturday... Sunday and Monday are looking nice so we could still get some riding in then.

Cycle tour to Manhattan - route advice

Submitted by BVan Nieuwenhoven on Thu, 05/22/2014 - 10:03am

A traveler emailed me with this question... I figured it's best to post it here because I'm not certain of the most comfortable route from Summit to Fort Lee. Considerations:

* This is at the end of a very long journey, so a route that avoids hills is probably better than a route that charges directly up them.

* There isn't a time requirement stated here, so if the route is a little roundabout, that's ok.

* "Safe" seems to be a big factor here. Unfortunately the direct line from Summit to Fort Lee has a lot of towns with dense urban traffic.

Thursday Summer Jammin' Laps cancelled

Submitted by EGreenstein on Wed, 05/21/2014 - 11:04pm

Thursday morning's ride is officially cancelled.  That said, if the roads are dry at 5AM, Christy and Jackie will (unofficially) be at 5:45 at Engineers Gate.

Whatever you choose to do, have a great weekend of riding and we'll see you next week!

LG -- not nice company, even beyond the Palisades issue

Go to: 14andhudson,com.  Located directly across Piermont Ave from Bunbury's it is owned by husb & wife team Eric & Paula Woods.  He is a CIA grad and has been exec. chef at Blue Fin in the W Hotel NYC since 2005.  Seafood will apparently be the specialty.  The #14 is lucky for him--he's the youngest of 14 children!  Paula told me that cyclists are definitely welcome

Berkshires Accommodation - room(s)/share(s) wanted

Submitted by BAshmore on Tue, 05/20/2014 - 10:04pm

Looks like I'll be able to attend after all but need room/share for me only on Friday night and two rooms (me + others) for both Saturday and Sunday nights.

I likely have a backup plan but just throwing this out there in case anyone has any better options.

Friday 5/23: impromptu Westchester ride, Stone Barns, ~40 miles, b18

Submitted by MHiller on Tue, 05/20/2014 - 9:55pm
I'm on a business trip right now, getting back via redeye on Friday morning. Good things don't happen if I try to work after a redeye, though, so how about a ride? I don't want to post it as a listed ride, given that a flight delay or suchlike would upset the apple cart, but in the event that all works out okay, anybody want to join me? Rollout would be about 9:30 from Grant's Tomb; routing will take us directly back to the city, no Metro North trip. Interested? Reply here or directly to me. Obviously, this is not too likely to work out for anyone spending the weekend in the Berkshires.

Mammoth Boulder Falls on River Rd under GW Bridge--it was the size of a car

Submitted by JJacobson on Tue, 05/20/2014 - 4:43pm

The gates N & S of the bridge are chained closed for cars.  Bikes can go around the chains &  easiily ride around the rock.  I think it happened Sunday  & assume it was after the Gran Fondo passed.  Additional rock slides in the area can't be ruled out.
