Ride to Montauk Place Available

Submitted by allisoncasey on Thu, 05/29/2014 - 8:31pm

Just in time to carb-load for Saturday... I'm registered for the 150 mile distance, but have unfortunately found myself injured and unable to ride. Anyone interested? I believe you can ride one of the shorter distances, you just have to tell them that morning. Ideally I'd like to recoup some of the cost, but at this point I really just don't want the place to go to waste...

hippie loop

Submitted by MDeTemple on Thu, 05/29/2014 - 3:48pm

I wanted to do the hippie loop again. can anyone tell what is involved with with the metro north?

This is on my usual commute route. Anyway, a number of years ago, the 90th street exit on the west side of the park was closed to cars; it's now supposed to be access for pedestrians, bikes, etc., only.

On the loop drive side, white vertical pylons narrow the pavement from 2 lanes worth of width to 1, and there's signage indicating "90th Street Exit Closed". On the CPW side, access to the right-hand side of the roadway is blocked by one of those blue police sawhorses, and the left side is open.

"It’s … Manhattanhenge." (May 29th)

From today's New York Times:

"Just before sunset, the sun will line up with Manhattan’s cross streets.

Please find the note that I received earlier today from John Eustice, our November 2013 meeting's speaker, highly esteemed race commentator, Gran Fondo promoter and the captain of the first US team to race the Giro di Italia.

"Hi, hope all is well, Would you consider putting something out to your club about my Berkshire Cycling Classic (gran fondo) coming up on June 14?

All the best, John"

GWB bike paths - 5/28 statements to Port Authority

Submitted by NWeissman on Wed, 05/28/2014 - 8:55pm

"Consistent with your mandate as Port trustees to develop a 'strategic plan to enhance regional capacity and the quality of intercity travel', you must recognize the strides cycling has made over the past quarter-century.  You must go beyond tolerating cycling on the GWB. You must maximize it. Don’t constrain cycling with improvements that will only suffice for one generation.  Plan for, and build, a 21st-Century George."

Statement to Trustees - Charles Komanoff
