Anyone want to ride the Vermont Challenge?
http://www.vtchallenge.com/AboutChallenge.htm
I found out about this cool cycling event in Vermont and would love to find someone to ride it with me. I would like to do the three-day option (230+ miles, 16K+ feet of climbing). As a rider, I have A-level skills and speed, but sort of a B-level of casual mentality about the whole cycling thing. Cautious on descents, strong on climbs. Please let me know if you are interested.(Contact: baronblue (at) gmail (dot) com)
Thanks!

Thumbs up to Metro-North conductors
Yesterday we took the Hudson Line home from Cold Spring. There was a rock slide between Garrison and Peekskill meaning folks had to disembark at Garrison, take a shuttle bus to Peekskill (or ride their bikes like we did), then board a train at Peekskill for a train home. It couldn't have been a fun day for the conductors by any stretch of the imagination, yet, at least on the 2 trains my group took, they were helpful and pleasant and not at all annoyed by us cyclists. So, thank you for making the best of a lousy situation.
Great new Bike Shop in Tenafly
Just discovered a new bike shop in Tenafly, in the center of town. The mechanic works on your bike right in front of you so you see what's being done to your bike. FUSION CYCLES 31A Washington Street, Tenafly NJ 07670 (201)266-6925
Train service out between Garrison and Peekskill. Rock slide caused by track work. Bus service only.

Last minute ride listing.
I just posted a C-13 ride to Harsdale for tomorrow. This leaves very little time for the ride to get posted and seen by the masses so I figured I'd mention it here as well.
I haven't been able to ride for a while (stress fracture) and I'm looking to get started again with a nice, gentle C ride.
The ride departs from the Loeb Boathouse at 9:00 am.
And here's why we don't paceline with areobars
Can anyone confirm that Fort Washington is repaved?
It's on the resurfacing schedule this week:

Of course, they'll repave up to 169th, but they're of course milling the road up to 179th north of there, whomp whomp

It would be pretty interesting (like a freaking miracle) if they could clean up the UCI…
Talansky is diagnosed with serious injuries from his crashes in stage 7
Talansky left the Tour this morning with injuries. But a hard look at his diagnosis, sacroiliitis, reveals that it is caused by crashes, and can lead to lung infection, which he has
Oddly enough, I have the same injury, so learning about his diagnosis was very helpful to me. Too bad it's too late to do anything about it , at least in my case.
In his case, recovery will be slow, and is not so clearcut. Sad. He's now the fourth top rider to abandon the Tour due to injuries, and the second one after colliding with Simon Gerrans.
The condition may also be the cause of his lung infection. Thus, this is something we all might be aware of, being cyclists. Sacroillitis often is caused by being hit by a car!!!!
Information about the Tour de France Night!
Rapha is running a "Tour de France" Happy Hour every night, and have reserved seats for us on Thurdsay, July 24th. That will be Stage 18, which is a mountain stage.
Please make sure to sign up, so we have a head count.
