Cracked rim?

Submitted by aron on Mon, 07/07/2014 - 2:16pm

I'm riding on Alexrims, AS-1 (700cc) and discovered  a crack in the rim (as though something pushed its way to the surface).

My last time out was Thursday night, and this morning, I found the crack, and a flat to boot.

Several questions:

1) How common is this? (They have about 4500 miles on them)

2) Was the flat a result of the cracked rim, or the cracked rim a result of the flat? (It was pouring that night, so its hard to tell when in the ride my wheel got clobbered)

3) 99% of my riding is on city streets. Should I consider getting different rims (more sutable to NYC streets)

Ride listing language

If a club ride is "no-drop," you can just say that and all will be clear. The sweep rider and everybody will wait for everybody.

However, what's the best way to say "no-drop policy is not in effect" in normal English?

"We will drop you" would be a little harsh, and sounds like a Queen lyric.

A friend of mine needs to borrow a bike for a ride on July 12th.  Preferbly a 52 frame road bike.  Please contact me if you are willing to lend or rent for the day.

How much damage can be caused by a child's bike? This much.

Note one officer required a "stable" be put in his head.

The George Washington Bridge Bike Path: what a horror show!

Submitted by HSchiffman on Sun, 07/06/2014 - 6:32pm

Not having been on the GW Bridge bike/pedestrian path for some time, I was on the south path this afternoon with my wife, an infrequent cyclist. She handled it well, but the experience from my point of view, is one of embarrassment that this is what is passes for currency on the only bike crossing south of the Bear Mtn Bridge.

Getting up close and personal on this narrow obstacle course, shared with passage in both directions and traffic density far beyond its carrying capacity is a reality check. Has there been an incremental creep of usage that I hadn't noticed? Has there been a sudden jump in traffic of late? Are users just getting ruder?

A note of appreciation to those who worked on West Point

Submitted by NWeissman on Sun, 07/06/2014 - 6:24pm

People,

A quick note of appreciation to West Point Event Coordinator Morene Bangel and WP Rides Coordinator Jim Finder for their compassion and aplomb overcoming an inordinate number of calamities large (downpours, emergency room vists) and small (room reservations, group meals) to keep the weekend on track.

And a special call out to the leaders who stepped up to post rides of all speeds on challenging terrain.

Where to watch Le Tour in Kips Bay/Flatiron

Submitted by CWood on Sat, 07/05/2014 - 10:43pm

Anyone recommend a bar to watch the Tour in my 'hood in the next week? Jen Benepe has given me Tour fever.

I suppose it's asking too much to be able to see the French TV broadcast....

Next week I will have access to digital TV, but it would be nice to see one day's stage before then.

Do we want these installed in NYC?

They would be even more useful to riders who are clipped in.

Prescription Sunglasses. Looking for a recommendation.

I thought I remember that someone gives club members a discount. Anyone know who that was?
