Central Park Interim Report

Submitted by CWaaser on Wed, 11/19/2014 - 9:53pm

Neile Weissman, Linda Wintner and I represented the NYCC at a meeting of the Central Park Conservancy Recreational Roundtable this evening.  (Several other NYCC members were also there representing other organizations.)  Unfortunately, the Department of Transportation was unable to send a representative so many questions regarding changes to the park drives remain unanswered.

What we do know is as follows:

1. The speed limit will go down from 25mph to 20mph on the park drives.  We do not know when this will be implemented.  The NYPD will be concentrating their enforcement in areas where congestion is greatest and where there have been collisions.

Cycling Camp for NYCCers in Southern California in February

Submitted by FLeffel on Tue, 11/18/2014 - 7:04pm

I’ve arranged for Cycling Camp of San Diego (CCSD --- www.ccsd.com) to offer a  5 day camp specially tailored for NYCCer’s the last week in February. We’d need a minimum of 12 folks to sign up to make it work.

Bike Tour Company advise for Holidays

Submitted by Brie on Tue, 11/18/2014 - 5:37pm

Hello - I just joined NYCC and look forward to rides with you.

At the moment, I'm looking for a great organization that organizes bike tours.  I'd like to go on a one-week trip in late December and am having trouble finding anything.  Any suggestions out there?

Thanks
Brie

What's your single best tip for staying comfortable while riding in cold weather? (Don't bother with "ride your trainer indoors" as I am aware of that option.) This is for an article I'm writing for Examiner.com

Somehow I stopped getting the NYCC weekly email newsletter. What happened? My membership status is OK.

Does anyone have any info as to when they migh finish the repaving job on that stretch of North Broadway just north of the Spoon?  It seems like quite a while since they did the milling.  Thanks.

on the topic of club gear

Submitted by YehuditS on Mon, 11/17/2014 - 12:11pm

I don't want to ruffle any feathers here, especially as I'm about to leave NY.

I never liked the ordering from Champions Systems for two reasons: (I have no opinion on Champions Systems quality of gear, looks fine to me)

1) sizing is a bit iffy and nothing beats being able to actually try on a piece of kit

2) but mostly: it really miffed me that on top of a rather expensive piece of kit I was supposed to cough up another $15 dollar for delivery. In my mind - $15 delivery charge is a rip-off. It should be free.

That being said: Here is how my new club in Stockholm is handling their gear (by the way, nice looking pieces):
