Message Board

UPDATED

I just got an email from NYCares and they are 80,000 coats short of their 100,000 coat goal. The collection ends Dec. 31.

Do you have a coat to give? If so, email me and I will come pick it up. I can also give you a donation receipt.

If it's easier, you can also drop off a coat at any police precinct from Nov. 17 to Dec. 31, or one of 300 drop-off sites to be announced.

Coats should be washed or dry cleaned before donating.

Late-Ish Ride Posting: Pancake Ride (B16) for Saturday

Submitted by BVan Nieuwenhoven on Thu, 11/06/2014 - 1:53pm

Had to get some stuff sorted with my schedule, but now I'm all set. Dropped it down to a B16 pace to welcome more riders along, and it's a ride where you can get back to the city by 2pm if you need to get somewhere else in the evening (as I do)

Polly Trottenberg Contact Info

Submitted by MLevin on Thu, 11/06/2014 - 11:49am

All,

I was wondering if anyone in the club may have Polly Trottenberg's email or direct dial.  I need some help with a DOT issue unrelated to cycling but as a member of NYCC and because of our work with her, I was hoping someone may have her contact information.

Please feel free to email me offline if we don't want to sure this info widely and I can be reached at skierlaw (at) gmail (dot) com.

Thanks,

Mark

Tales from the Marathon.

Here comes a guy on a CitiBike (bike share bike) coming UP Fifth Ave. as the racers are coming down. Right in front of the do-nothing/say nothing the police.

Bus driver on cyclists

Submitted by NWeissman on Wed, 11/05/2014 - 8:06pm

"Cyclists have to understand something that pretty much all buses stop on the right side. So if they’re traveling with us and there’s a bus stop in the far side of the intersection, or even the near side, they have to understand that we’re going to pull in. If you could just lower your speed and even stop and come around to the left side of the bus. We have no problem with the left side. It’s just that side and a lot of cyclists are very spiteful when it comes to us.

Non-cycling athletic activities

Submitted by NWeissman on Wed, 11/05/2014 - 6:07pm

People,

At last evening's meeting, the Board reviewed our policies on non-cycling athletic activities and came away with the following.

Non-cycling - Members are encouraged to propose non-cycling activities that they believe would be of interest to the membership.  At the same time, these are not susceptible to meaningful ride coordinator review and the Board does not view them as official or sponsored activities. Consequently, non-cycling activities will not be included in our ride listings, although the message board will be available to promote them.

Accident in the park this morning

Submitted by BMirell on Wed, 11/05/2014 - 12:48pm

As I was coming down the west drive in the upper 90's, there was an police van with lights flashing blocking the roadway. I slowed as I approached and noticed a panel truck behind the police car. There was a woman in severe emotional distress sittiing on the curb between the car and the truck. There was also a dog under a blanket with just its tail sticking out. I talked briefly with the cop and it seems she was walking her dog without a leash, it darted out and was hit by the truck. The truck seemed to be the type that was removing the remnants of the marathon.
