Piermont tomorrow

Submitted by MBruckner on Fri, 07/22/2011 - 2:23pm

Hi All,

I'm going to ride up to Piermont tomorrow. Leaving Brooklyn around 6am. Will plan to be back not later than 10a. Plan to ride at something like a A22 pace. If you want to join, you're welcome and we can catch up anywhere on the West Side or on the NJ side of the GWB. Paceline skills a must.

Crippling heat does not cancel.

July 23 kvetch ride (rail trail) is on

Submitted by LWintner on Fri, 07/22/2011 - 2:14pm

As of now, we are still planning to do this ride but please keep checking the Message Board just in case anything changes.

We want to emphasize what several other ride leaders have posted today.  Please make sure you have at least two water bottles or one water bottle and a camelback tomorrow.  Dress in light colors.  Use plenty of sunscreen and bring some along to reapply during the ride.

Ride to Piermont cancelled

To those who have signed up for this ride, I will be the first one to say I am extremely bummed out that I need to cancel this. The weather is just too damn hot. And there is no point being out there riding our bikes with the possibility of heat stroke among other things. I will definitely post this ride again when the weather is more tolerable. Stay cool everyone. And again, so sorry to cancel this ride.

Ride to Piermont

Hi, does anybody know how I can contact all the riders (via email) who have signed up for tomorrow's "Ride to Piermont".  I wanted to ask them if maybe we should either move the ride up to an earlier start (7am), or cancel it due to the heat advisory.

NEW START TIME 8:00 a.m. for Mamaroneck/City Island ride on Sat.

Submitted by abrowning on Fri, 07/22/2011 - 9:18am

same location, boathouse.  Please be there before 8:00 for an ontime start.  We're trying to get an extra hour in before the temps heat up.

If you've signed up and this new time doesn't work for you, please remove your name from the sign in list, or otherwise let me know.

Again, please bring two water bottles and/or a camelback filled with ice.  We'll be stopping regularly for ice refills, and will be modifying our pace to deal with the heat.  Likely to get on a subway home after lunch.

Tomorrow's ride has shady roads, bailouts at mile 36, mile 47 and mile 55. Wear light colors, save the black jersey for a cooler day. Slather on the sunscreen in the morning, and bring the tube with you so you can reapply as needed. Start hydrating now. Increase your fluid intake all day today. Reduce or eliminate caffeine, and alcohol. In the morning, drink extra before the ride. We'll be stoping more often to pick up cold fluids during the ride. We will stop to rest as needed, or as requested. If you ride tomorrow, ride smart, and ride with friends. Cheers, George
