Life of a boot

Submitted by GYang on Sun, 03/02/2014 - 11:49pm

This is what a dollar bill looked like after being used as a boot in one of my tires for about three weeks - it went in looking fairly new. I have had others that come out fine. Not sure what was different this time other than this was probably a bigger cut in the tire than others I have had.

The Mean Streets of New York - yesterday's op-ed in the Times

Submitted by HSchiffman on Sun, 03/02/2014 - 4:12pm

Something all of us who have cycled down the Grand Concourse and Queens Blvd knew instinctively but perhaps didn't know what specifically in them makes motorists disrespectful of cyclists and pedestrians.

C SIG Classification - time change

Submitted by KMostkoff on Fri, 02/28/2014 - 10:04pm

We are delaying the start of the classification to 12 noon due to the expected cold in hopes that it will get much warmer by then.  Please check your email for previously sent directions.

Dress warmly: layers and layers. Wear pants/tights, full-fingered gloves, a hat under your helmet, something around your neck and warm socks.  Remember to bring a snack and water. Expect to be outside for 1 1/2-2 hours.

This has been a rediculous winter, so why should we expect it to cooperate with us cyclists? We promise it will be fun anyway and now our next ride will surely be warmer!

All the leaders will be out there with you and we look forward to meeting you tomorrow.

BSIG Laps/Orientation -- Slight Change in Plans

Submitted by FLeffel on Fri, 02/28/2014 - 7:07pm

B SIG ALERT

We are going to switch our schedule a bit for tomorrow. Orientation will be at the same time and place, but we will run the laps AFTER orientation, at around noon.

While the weather forecasters are projecting slightly warmer temperatures  by noon, it will still be quite chilly – probably low 30’s. Therefore, please heed the clothing advice you’ve received in prior emails.

So, the agenda for tomorrow is as follows:

10:15 AM:  Report to the Anderson School (M334), 100 West 76-77th Street (between Columbus/Amsterdam Ave). We will start promptly at 10:30.  As before, secure bike parking will be provided.

Central Park curfew 1AM-6AM

Excerpt:

" the cops were right: Central Park is closed between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. But Shankman says there was no signage where he entered the park at 63rd Street and Central Park West indicating this ("No gates, no signs, no traffic cones blocking my way"), and he's done this early morning run before without a hitch...."Knowing the law now"

C-sig when it's below freezing?

Submitted by SHNY on Fri, 02/28/2014 - 4:14pm

Greetings everyone,

I'm a new C-Sig rider.  I was wondering, are there any standard club rules of thumb about whether rides will be on or not?  For example, it's due to be 21-23 degrees tomorrow morning - do below freezing temps, or thunderstorms, etc tend to cancel rides?  I'm prepared to ride in cold weather, and I understand that the announcement won't be made until tomorrow (when we know what the weather actually is), but I'm still curious to know, in general, if there are any set guidelines about these things.

And I look forward to meeting (at least some of) you soon!
