Looking for a Trainer

Submitted by Sir Roger on Mon, 03/10/2014 - 12:26pm

Title says it.. Ok so lots of used trainers out there on Ebay and CL.. How to choose.. want to spend less than 200 but want something quiet.. er yeah well relatively quiet.

So any opinions on what to avoid and inexpensive successes.. Who is really happy with their trainer..

Yeh I know it's going to get warm any day now any day.. but I am coming off a lengthy stint warming the DL bench and need that extra availability.

And away we go....

Prospect Park oassing oin the right?

Submitted by RGrossberg on Sun, 03/09/2014 - 3:20pm

I was riding in Prospect Park today and passed a woman on the left.  She called me out and castiigated me for passing on her left.  She said that that is very dangerous.  I responded that as far as I know that passing on the left is the accepted way pf passing and in fourty years of riding that has always been the proper side.  I said even mirrors are on the riders left so that they can see upcoming traffic from there left.  She then insisted to me that the "rule" in the park is to pass on the right.  Am I missing something?

the wonderful story of Alfonsina Strada, who rode the Giro in 1924 officially with the men, came dead last but was celebrated by the Italian spectators every step of the way.

CLUB GEAR

Submitted by Sir Roger on Fri, 03/07/2014 - 7:44pm

The link under About Us to Club Gear page still shows the old kit no pics of people wearing the new shirt or the shirt itself.

Is there any chance that we can get an NYCC cycling cap ??

Reminder: Grant's Tomb Crit tomorrow

Submitted by Slugger on Fri, 03/07/2014 - 11:05am

Tomorrow is going to be GLORIOUS! Gorgeous! Wonderful! It will be such a great day...for a race!

Just a reminder that the Grant's Tomb criterium is tomorrow, meaning you won't be able to get up Riverside Drive. Or, swing by and cheer for all the Kissenas (and boo all those Dave Jordan people* ;)) and then head over the bridge. The races last all morning, but you should be fine coming home.

*Given that it seems like Jordan is populated almost entirely by A Siggies, you could maaaaybe cheer for them, too... ;)

Want bike lanes on Morningside Avenue in Harlem? Sign the petition

Submitted by jzisfein on Thu, 03/06/2014 - 9:46pm

The NYC Dept. of Transportation has proposed a redesign for Morningside Avenue in Harlem. (Note: Morningside Avenue is on the east side of Morningside Park; it should not be confused with Morningside Drive which is on the west side.)

The redesign has been approved by Manhattan Community Board 9 and is under consideration by CB10. It reduces 2 lanes of traffic to 1 lane each way and adds a median strip for left turns. Curiously, it does not include bike lanes, although there is enough room for a 5 ft. bike lane in each direction without reducing parking spaces and without reducing the width of vehicle travel lanes.
