Can you repair/rebuild them?  For Shimano, at least, the answer used to be no, but maybe that's changed?

Seeking young Brits . . . .

Submitted by CGuzzetta on Thu, 03/20/2014 - 11:07am

A friend in Cold Spring got a call. . . . if anyone with the prerequisite qualifications (young and British) is interested in the below, let me know and I'll put you in touch.

"Just got a call from this British reality TV show "Taking New York" looking for young brits in NY who are or would participate in the Putnam County Cycling Classic (Saturday, May 10th, 2014).  They want to shoot some Brits in the PCC event.  Not sure why but they asked.

Any help finding some bike riders in the 19 to 28 range of British persuasion would be bloody brilliant mate:

The streets appear to be soaking wet and the weather report says spotty drizzle.  I'm going to spin class instead.  I hope to see you next week.

Great, GREAT--the best possible--news about the GWB.

TA's Tour de Staten Island on Sunday, April 13

Submitted by JOlson on Tue, 03/18/2014 - 8:01pm

Does anybody have any experience with this ride? Scenic or yecch? Flat or hilly? Generally a fun time or a zoo? Etc.?

is anybody in the C or B tranche -- say, up through B16 -- planning to sign up?

Finally, can anyone recommend a good but informal Italian restaurant to replenish all those spent calories after the ride?

Thanks for your input!

Continental Grand Prix 4000 tires coming off the rims

Submitted by RSchoenbohm on Tue, 03/18/2014 - 10:48am

700 X 23 on ALX440sl rims. As I approach 90 PSI the bead breaks free and I scramble to deflate. Have to run them at no more than 85. Front and rear the same. Rims were fine with the old Vredesteins. Should I move on to a different tire? Price was right and the reviews good. Something I'm doing wrong here?

Crash Analysis

Submitted by kbarch on Tue, 03/18/2014 - 7:49am

So, first lap of Sunday's race in Prospect Park.  Just past Center Drive, beginning of descent, on the inside of a right hand bend, I'm in front, doing right about 30.  I hear a whacking sound, see my front wheel cocked about 20 degrees to the right and down I go, hard, but sideways, fortunately.

It was still quite early, so light wasn't great, but I had a clear view of the road and didn't notice anything unusual, but then again you know, that road is usually not very good.  I'm sure no other rider had anything to do with it, since when I saw the only other guy to go down fall, he was way to the side of where I was and besides, I was in front.
