Routes in Saratoga Springs

Submitted by RRGilbert on Mon, 10/17/2022 - 10:29am

Anyone have recommendations for routes in and around Saratoga Springs in the 30-40 mile range?  I see many on RideWithGPS, but would like what others in the club might have done.  Thanks.

Now THAT’s Commitment

Submitted by PStorey on Wed, 10/12/2022 - 3:22pm

Not 48 hours after we all returned from Southampton, Neile Weissman has circulated route improvements for next year's edition. Is anyone more committed to this Club than Neile?

Applause, please.

Leaves have color up north: get out and ride

Submitted by HSchiffman on Wed, 10/12/2022 - 12:12pm

Rode trails in the hills above Cold Spring and Garrison yesterday (10/11) and leaves are showing their color.

No insects, unencumbered riding weather. Trails are in great shape.

Rain tomorrow, but Friday and Saturday look promising.

Get out and ride!

A very important congratulations, Dr. Ed Fishkin.

He celebrates his retirement as chief medical officer of Woodhull Hospital today. His has truly been an important life, a life of service, care, caring, and giving. The club knows him as its go-to medical advisor. And as the founder of the Kids Ride Club which introduces/exposes inner-city children to cultural institutions and geographic locales they likely would not otherwise experience. It promotes children's living healthfully, eating well, and studying. Oh, and it teaches them bike riding. More? You want more? In retirement Ed will be helping refugees. Chapeau, Ed Fishkin! Your membership honors the club.

Just a little note with a big thank you to Neile Weissman for another fantastic weekend trip! He managed, yet again, to gather great people for beautiful rides and delicious food!  Fantastic fun!

gradient lag

Submitted by JCarasso on Tue, 10/11/2022 - 8:10pm

After using a Garmin 1000 for 7 years, I upgraded to the new 1040.  To my surprise, the grade indicator now has a significant lag. The 1000 worked almost instantly.  I thought it was my imagination, but it was not. On their website, Garmin states that a 5 - 15 second lag is NORMAL. There is even lots of comments in their forums (30 pages on the gradient lag 1040 forum along). To say, I am not happy is an understatement.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this issue with Garmin products, particularly the 530, 830, 1030 or 1040 or with any of the Wahoo products.  Apparently, this issue started with the release of the "30" series.

Basic derailleur pulleys: Grease, oil or dry?

Submitted by isaacb on Tue, 10/11/2022 - 10:54am

My derailleur pulleys are the basic kind: Wheel, steel bushing, two outer plates. I've always lubed these, using either chain lube or a little grease. On any ride, after about 50 miles, I start to hear squealing from the pulleys. "The internet" seems divided between oil, grease and dryunlubricated. What's your approach? Thanks.
