Fox Meadow/Wadsworth. Detour Scarsdale
Just a heads up they are woking on Wadsworth between Fenimore and White plains. Part of the road is closed, full of plates and the detour is also full of plates. All of this should be avoided.
north end of Central Park still closed
The north end of Central Park was closed when I tried to get through last night, although the signs still said the closure would end on 12/2. I asked a runner if the roadway beyond the barricades was passable, and he said it was not after about 100 feet.
If anyone has info about when the road will reopen, please post.
AKA River Road south entrance closed to all users 12/4.
.
Don't know if it's storm related or road work. Check the Park website before heading down this week.
How do I get onto NYCC's Strava club membership listing?
It seems like forever I've had a request pending to be "admitted" to NYCC's Strava membership.
Who would I contact to get it "Approved"?
The OCA
As days are short and weather uncertain, consider an elephant in the room as far as a ride choice this winter season.
If you have a gravel bike, a road bike capable of wide tires, or even an ancient mountain bike, consider the OCA. You only have to deal with motor traffic on road crossings. Most curbs have either cuts or low entry points.
Unlike road riding, the OCA is mostly protected from wind.
Access to Hudson Line Metro North is never far should weather close in, or you got things wrong regarding conditions. You can start at the HighBridge in Manhattan and soldier through the Bronx, although the Bronx section's traffic is not within everyone's comfort level; you can pick it up off the #1 or 4 train below Van Cortlandt Park.
Seeking recommendations for bike loan or rent for 12/2-3
Hi:
I'm in NYC and temporarily without bike. I know that the NYCC has a page on rentals, but it's a few years old and includes defunct shops. I would like to rent or borrow a bike (Manhattan), size small, for this Saturday (pickup Friday.) I'm a small (47-52 cm.) Can be road or hybrid, flat or SPD pedals. (Something I can use on a C ride, so not a Citibike.) Any recommendations on shops or anyone willing to loan me one?
Thanks.
Join in to savor an "alternative" Thanksgiving Day repast
Hi, Everyone -
Last year I did a Manhattan ride for NYCC, and we ended up as planned at a top Chinatown dim sum parlor, sharing plates and a yummy and fun feast.
This year I'm doing one such foret for the 5BBC, we're meeting Prospect Park and heading to Little Guyana for browsing, being wowed, and sharing a feast. FYI, Guyanese is the 2nd largest ethnic group in Queens, with the borough itself being THE most ethnically diverse county in the country. And what choices we'll have for all our gustatory pleasures!
Girona in March 2023
Hello,
I was looking for information on cycling in Girona.
The posts I see on the message board are several years old.
If you have any tips on riding or apartment rentals in Girona and you have a minute, would you mind sharing the information with me.
I am a C rider looking to become a B rider.
Thanks,
Annette Bauer
Tucson
Hi folks, I was thinking about taking a week in December and taking my bike to Tucson. The internet says it's an amazing place to ride. Big mountains, great roads, lots of bikers, cool town, etc. the pictures look great and I love the desert. Just curious whether folks who have ridden there think it's a good idea. I don't mind being dropped.
thanks so much.
