Sunday Morning 8am A21 9W-Ash-Bradley/Tweed-9W Loop

Submitted by RCiardullo on Sat, 06/09/2012 - 5:05pm

Anybody up for an A21 9W-Ash-Bradley/Tweed-9W loop tommorow at 8am from the NJ side of the GWB? We will attack the climbs and paceline with a smooth, fast groove on the flats.

We will be flying in economy class; no meals served, just a very quick drink and snack stop. The plan is to be back at the bridge before 11am.

Please email me if you are joining the ride.

Thanks,

Rod C.

ClimBathon: PIPC police HQ says River Rd. IS open...but it's going to rain.

Submitted by RRosenthal on Sat, 06/09/2012 - 8:30am

For those who wonder if the Weather Wussy weathered the rain. We went. Had a fine ride. At worst, it drizzled, but not much.

For those checking in about the road, it is re-surfaced. I'm told another layer will be put down, but it's darn good now, at least going north. Coming south is a day behind in work.  And wouldn't it be good and appropriate for the club to write the PIPC to acknowledge and thank them for their work.

Cold Spring A-20 9am Ride - READ ME

Submitted by JViesta on Sat, 06/09/2012 - 8:14am

We are still meeting at the scheduled time and place but rain looks eminent.

We may change the route to be a safer Nyack and back loop, if the rain holds we'll extend the ride but current radar looks like we're about to be hit with a big storm.

RED LIGHT ENFORCEMENT RE-INSTITUTED BY GREEN UNIFORMED PARKS ENFORCEMENT

Submitted by AResnick on Sat, 06/09/2012 - 8:09am

On Friday June 8th 4:30-5:30ish the greenies were set-up at the Boathouse.  Although this is a common place to see them(west 80s at 8am weekdays) they were ticketing just as they have done in the past on the west drive.  They gave a ticket to a commuter who said he went through the light not thinking much of it as he was in the bike lane and there were NO PEDESTRIANS in the crosswalk.  Of interest is that there were six or seven of them; and yet they never address the issue of runners in the bike lane below 72nd street on the east and west side!  I ride there when traffic is in the park5-7PM(and 7-8 or so AM)and  many runners ignoring the signage; creat a real danger.

PS-the tickets they gave out are $60

Campy Lever Rebuild

Submitted by CrooksInKingsCounty on Sat, 06/09/2012 - 1:44am

Can anyone recommend a shop (Manhattan or Brooklyn) that does a good job of rebuilding campy ergo levers?  Is this just something any decent mechanic can handle or more of a specialized skillset?  I'm trying to get a fresh "snap" back into my now sluggish mid 90's 8sp record ergos!  Any help is much appreciated.  I dont think this will be a DIY project for me, although I know it's not rocket science.

Kosher BBQ Century

Submitted by DHudes on Fri, 06/08/2012 - 7:23pm

This Father's Day, June 17th, Daniel Labovitz and I are leading a B-17 century ride out from Manhattan to Dix Hills on Long Island and back. Along the way out, we'll have a ride through the Gold Coast both some sections familiar (Old Westbury) and less familiar (Cold Spring Hills) and come up the highest paved road on Long Island (all of 360 or so feet of elevation in .3 miles).  As our reward for riding out and to fuel up for the return to Manhattan, we are having a Glatt Kosher BBQ at my Mom's house.

Please see Kosher BBQ Century for more information and to sign up.

Storm King and Bagels Sunday 6/10 B-17

Submitted by DHudes on Fri, 06/08/2012 - 7:17pm

I've got a nice route planned with 6100+ feet of climbing over 84 miles. 5 intrepid riders have signed up, I can take a couple more folks who are interested in patient climbing with good views and nice scenery on a group ride.  If you're coming, bring snacks: lunch is at mile 45 but we've a train ride to Beacon before our ride so we may not make it to our lunch stop at Bubba's Bagels of Wesley Hills until almost 1PM. To make up for that, we can stop for extra snacks after lunch (or before and double back ) at Zishe's Homemade Bakery a bit further south on 306 so you can stuff some pastries and cookies in your pocket (or eat them on the spot, whatever).
