Selling my ticket for Montauk ride this weekend
It's a great ride (http://www.ridetomontauk.com) but I can't go this year. The tickets cost $112 but I'll sell you mine for $85, which is what I paid for early registration.
Garmin courses w/ turn-by-turn directions
When I did the SIG I was surprised to find that the Garmin files the leaders sent us for each ride provided turn-by-turn directions when loaded onto my Edge 500. Can anyone explain how I can map a ride on the computer and export it to my Edge 500 with turn-by-turn directions?
I have tried this using GarminConnect, but when I export to the device the course loads fine, but there are no turn-by-turn directions.
I have also tried it using bikeroutetoaster.com. In this case when I export to the device the course also loads fine. But when I try to cycle through to the page display that would contain the turn-by-turn directions, the device spontaneously shuts off. So what's the secret? Thanks!

Ride Preview - the "Longest Day of the Year" ride.
Ride Preview;
The return of the “Longest Day of the Year” ride. Tuesday, June 19th. 5:00 AM – AM as in morning – from the Boathouse. So early! What a dumb idea! This ride is for mischievous A riders who want to do something different. Also - for the inquisitive - there have been episodes of spiritual phenomenon often reported on the “longest day of the year” – who knows – come out – we’ll see.
Nassau-Suffolk Challenge
My wife and I did this ride last year (http://www.n2sbc.org/) and really enjoyed it. I strongly recommend it. Last year's route took us all along the North Shore of LI, past all the "gold coast" homes, etc. Pretty and, for Long Island, pretty hilly.

Race Across America Starts June 12 - 3pm
So, at 3pm EST on Tuesday, June 12 ... we should all think about the WOMEN who are anticipating their Race Across America.
This race starts in San Diego and is epic .... 60+ racers will also start. Please follow:

Cassie Schumacher is from Akron, Ohio ... while I was in Akron, I was fortunate to befriend her and we rode in "The Valley" .. she's strong and a marathoner. Cassie is a professional who works with kids. She is unassuming. It will very interesting to see how she survives RAAM .....
Another rider to look out for would be Dave Elsberry

NJ Transit (Now) Allows Riders to Bring Bikes on Trains at All Stations
"NJ Transit adopted the new universal station policy on bikes at its regular board meeting this morning in Newark, nine months after a petition drive was launched to open bike access at the agency’s 97 stations with so-called “low-level” platforms, where riders have to step up onto trains.
Cyclists hopping trains to Hoboken, Newark or New York will now be able to take their bikes on board trains at all 156 NJ stations, except during peak hours on weekdays and weekends.
Space Available in Cars to Cold Spring July 4th??
We've started this thread so that anyone who plans to drive up to Cold Spring and has room in the car for other cyclists & their bikes can post a message here. Please indicate in your message how someone should contact you to reserve the space. Once your car is full, please edit your initial post to add that the spots are taken.
Anyone who plans to go to Cold Spring by car, please email the leaders of the ride you intend to do so they know to expect you.
In Cold Spring, parking will be available at Christy's house (3 Northern Gate) or at the Cold Spring Train Station. (Christy & Jody's place is not far from the station.)
Cabin upstate
Hi all,
I'm hoping that you might be able to recommend a rental place (maybe a cabin or some sort of vacation home) for my wife and I to rent for most of July (roughly the 1st - 26th). I'm an academic and am looking for a quiet place to write this summer. I'm also an avid cyclist and would love to explore some new areas. We need some place with internet, a nice kitchen, close to good cycling, a double bed (or larger), within 4 hours driving of the city, and not much else. It ought to be reasonably priced. Have you ever rented something like this? Any suggestions?
Thanks!
