Cyclist Injured Avoiding J Walker Facts and Thoughts

Submitted by MGewirtz on Sun, 07/08/2012 - 9:30am
Earlier this week I crashed while trying to avoid a J walking pedestrian. The pedestrian was not hit, but I suffered a fractured hip and pelvis. I am advised that I will be unable to bear weight on my left leg for eight weeks and may have residuals after that. I am not looking for sympathy, but would like to share my experience and thoughts in the hope that it will raise awareness and perhaps start a dialogue leading to some meaningful changes in traffic law enforcement. In the interest of brevity I will omit some of the gory details regarding injury, pain, and the frustrations of dealing with the medical community.

I was riding west across town towards the West Side Greenway.

Submitted by JFinder on Sat, 07/07/2012 - 2:23pm

In view of the forecast of rain overnight and into the early morning, we’re going to delay the start time of the 4 Hills ride by an hour and a half. The ride will now start at 10:30AM, still on the New York side of the George Washington Bridge bike path.

If the weather forecast changes and it looks like rain will continue later into the day, OR IF THE RAIN WILL END EARLIER, we’ll email the participants directly, and also be sure to check the NYCC Message Board for any updates.

See you tomorrow morning.

cycling shoes

Submitted by DAumand on Fri, 07/06/2012 - 1:12pm

Well, it was time to replace my cycling shoes and so I began looking on line and asking folks for recommendations. I learned from someone, that TOGA on West End Avenue at 64th Street had a terrific staff. Terrific doesn't describe the guy who helped me.  His name is Will Alvarado ([email protected]). He spent close to an hour helping me find the right shoes for my feet. He's so knowledgeable and has a lovely, patient personality. So please if you need help in finding shoes go there.

Tour de Gunks redux cancelled for Saturday 7/7

Submitted by DScher on Fri, 07/06/2012 - 11:14am

Due to the extreme heat around New Paltz (temps in the 90s, heat index near 100 for most of the day) as well as the 90%+ chance of severe thunderstorms, we are going to cancel the Tour de Gunks redux ride for tomorrow.
