B16 - Thursday 7/5 laps in Central Park 5:45am
If the Cold Spring 7/4 rides aren't rained out, I am canceling the Thursday 5:45am Morning Laps ride. If the Cold Spring rides ARE rained out, I will ride Thursday morning. So, please keep checking the Message Board if you're interested in the Thursday morning ride. If I cancel the Thursday morning ride, some regulars may show up to ride but they will not be teaching a rotating paceline.
Regards, Linda
Beware: Thumb tacks around Harlem Hill area
Please be careful in Central Park. Some sicko has strewn thumb tacks around the Harlem Hill area, specifically on the west side by the tranverse. 3 riders from our morning ride got flats, one resulted in a crash involvinga couple of riders. In total, we witnessed at least 8 flats.

URGENT - tacks in CP this morning
Please be aware that someone has spread tacks along the CP loop.
I saw a dozen flats this morning between ~6-7 am, mostly on the north end of the loop and after HH. Some riders apparently fell after flatting on the downhill as well so be careful.
I would ride close to the ped lane as the perp is probably targeting cyclists and not runners/walkers.
Ellen - please contact the appropriate CP people to sweep the road.
thanks
Night Rides
When I'm riding laps in Central Park around 8:00 p.m., I sometimes see riders at Columbus Circle assembling for a night ride. The group seems to have about ten to fifteen participants.
Does anyone know what group that is? I didn't see the ride listed on the websites of the 5BBC, the New York Cycle Club or Transportation Alternatives.
If you are fluent in French, 'd like you to confirm my translation of four sentences by Jacques Anquetil
5-time Tour winner Jacques Anquetil co-wrote a book, obvously in French, in 1966, "En brülant les étapes." I just returned from reading it at the NYPL. I think I can make a fairly good guess at a translation. If you're fluent, I'd sure like your corroboration.

Hikers wanted for upper half of the Long Trail

She did the lower half a few years ago and wants to finish it. She is trying to find 'hiking buddies' and asked if I'd post this. The dates she is considering are:
August 17-24
August 24-26
August 27-31 (tentative, may just be 29th-31st)

GWB South Path closed July 4th - North Path open
Just a reminder - they close the south path of the bridge so folks don't gather up there to watch the fireworks. The north path will be open.
