some chance of thunderstorms for the afternoon.

Bring a rainjacket if you don't like getting wet.

There are also subway bail points in the Rockaways and in Brooklyn, so bring a metrocard

Thank you Grace Pineda

I want to thank Grace Pineada for organizing and leading 16 riders on a Randonee ride today, from Princeton to Frenchtown in honor of Bastille Day.

Ride began with warm home made croissants baked by Grace. Made the 70 min train ride so much better. What a way to begin the day. Best croissants I ever had .

The route was spectacular , can't wait to do it again,Sans 11 flats.

Great to learn something new, and thank you Grace for introducing us to Randoneer Riding. Kudos to you for taking on 16 , A riders and teaching them something new.

Looking forward to your next ride, I will be there. Oh, maybe I should have kept the croissants a secret , now everyone will want to sign up for your rides.

See you soon and thank you again for a great day.

3 Cyclists Killed in Separate Incidents in Northern Burbs during Past Month

Submitted by JJacobson on Sat, 07/14/2012 - 5:56pm

All 3 were apparently wearing helments, but:  1. A driver with a suspended license cut in front of an active member of the Westchester Club, killing her.  2. A chef was struck by a car "on the night" of June 25 in Briarcliff Manor.  3. A woman was killed by a car on the narrow, shoulderless stretch of 9W between Piermont and Nyack in Upper Grandview.  A heavy volume of car traffic  there frequently exceeds the 40 mph speed limit.  I do not cycle there because in my opinion there are several suitable substitute roads and trails.  (I think 9W south of Piermont and north of Nyack are OK because they have good shoulders)

700 cyclists are killed annually in accidents   in the US.

Pulling a fork

Submitted by BRoss on Fri, 07/13/2012 - 2:31pm

Quick question for the bicycle mechanics in the house:

I need to remove the fork from my frame, and having never done so (nor installed one, for that matter) I want to make sure there aren't any special tools or techniques required.

It's an Edge 2.0 road fork w/ carbon steerer. Headset is a Chris King threadless, non-integrated, 1-1/8"

Remove the topcap, remove the stem, and the fork just falls out, right? Or, if not... (as the kids say) wut do?

Thanks.

I'm am about to shoot myself after many attempts to create routes using: googlemaps, bikeroutetoaster, basecamp.  I cannot manage to plot a route.  The route goes berserk.  Someone in this club must know how to do this.  Please help while I still have some hair on my head!
