My bike died: Specialized free frame warranty or 20% off new bike?

Submitted by SLewis on Fri, 08/24/2012 - 9:02am

I need some advice.  The carbon back fork on my 2009 Specialized Dolce Triple Comp cracked a few weeks ago.  I took it to Toga(where I bought it) and they referred it to their Specialized rep, who said that Specialized could send me a 2012 Dolce Comp replacement frame for free, or I could get 20% off a brand new Ruby or Amira.

I completed the B18 and the A19 SIGs on my Dolce, and now after having ridden 4,000 miles already this year, I think I'm ready to invest in a fully carbon bike.  Also, I'd love to upgrade to a compact Ultegra, though I've been quite satisfied with my 105 triple.

At the same time, I need a bike soon.  I'm signed up for a century on 9/1 and ENY.

North Fork Century -- Make Offer

Submitted by medson67 on Thu, 08/23/2012 - 11:22pm

I have a paid registration for Sunday's ride, including the optional transport to & from Penn Station area.  Tweaked a hamstring last Sunday running a half marathon -- doctor strongly advises me to not ride this weekend.

I'm into this deal for $177.  If nobody takes my spot, I know I will go ride and I'm trying to save myself from myself.  If you're interested in the ride, make me an offer.

Armstrong says he's finished fighting drug charges

Submitted by PFroke on Thu, 08/23/2012 - 10:06pm

From AP:  AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ Lance Armstrong said Thursday night he is finished fighting a barrage of drug charges from the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, putting his unprecedented string of seven Tour de France titles at risk along with his legacy as one of the greatest cyclists in history.

Story is here

Anybody interested in joining me for a couple of laps around the Park, starting about 6:00 - 6:15 am from East 72nd Street Park entrance (or adjusting for any other starting point)? This could be viewed as an informal "recovery ride" for participants in Linda Wintner's excellent regularly posted Morning Laps ride on Tuesdays and Thursdays, as well as for others just looking to get out and do a couple of laps around the Park in the morning.

Fighting GWB/9W Tickets in Court

Submitted by tom_o on Thu, 08/23/2012 - 10:45am

Hi folks -

Regarding the bogus illegal left hand turn tickets issued in late June/early-July on 9W for those headed onto the GWB, has anyone gone to court for these yet? The outcome?

I've tried to keep up here on the message board, but haven't found any relevant threads. If I missed one, could you point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

I can’t wait for this year’s Golden Apple.

Labor Day Sunday, I’ll be riding with my elder son, and nephew, who’s coming up from Manhattan on the train. It will be one of the highlights of my cycling season. Make it one of your high points too.

It’s a good time to invite family and friends for a day on some the world’s most resplendent cycling terrain. Be sure to wear your WCC colors too – any of our shirts, old and new.

Bike portraits

Check out these wonderful portraits* of cyclists at Summer Streets. Photographer Dmitry Gudkov was set up outside Bicycle Habitat taking portraits, which are visible here:

Also take a look at his Web site, which has a nice carousel of cyclist portraits:

*Disclosure: Batch includes yours truly, who will usually not allow photos to be taken; this photog has cleared that hurdle.

He also took these cyclist/dog photos, which have me in stitches:

B18's -

If you are interested in early morning laps in Central Park, check the Ride Listing for tomorrow's ride.

Yep, it's early and a little dark at the Boat House start, but will become a beautiful, sunny day. Something worth getting up for.

We leave promptly from the Boat House at 6AM. If you interested, register and set your alarm.
