UPDATE on Cycling in CP and how to handle traffic signals....
I attended the CP community council meeting last night, which addressed concerns from both cyclists and pedestrians on cycling issues, both in CP and in NYC, in general.
NYT article about Reckless Drivers
It's a good read, highlights what we know already (but what the rest of the public may in the dark about)...
According to the article, the NY DMV recorded 3000+/- serious non fatal accidents last year in New York City... numbers like that makes it seem as if we're living in a war-zone... and just like a real war-zone, too many seem not to care.
Tuesday River Road is ON
I tried revising ride because the sign up wasn't showing (conflict with listing ride as unlimited due to recent changes to waitlist). anyways, Tuesday river road is ON! Meet at 6:15AM at NJ side of GWB! see you then

*Tour de Yonkers*, September 30, 2012 - now posted in Ride Listings
[edited] Thanks for your emails.
Group ride for the Tour de Yonkers, scheduled for September 30, 2012. Note, there's an entry fee. See: www.yonkersbikeclub.org for basic information.
I'm trying to get more details about the route. The ride listing will be updated as I get more information.
We'll ride the 40-mile route as a group and then continue on to somewhere else such as Scarsdale or Mamaroneck for a late lunch.
Can you recommend a place to get a top of the line bike fitting?
Only when I do Century rides do I have problems with my IT band on right knee. I am assuming it is an adjustment my usual cycle shop, Larry & Jeff's on 79th and 3rd can not fix. can you recommend a place for a full bike fitting? I have been trying to schedule at Chelsea Piers and get voice mail and no one calls back.
Appreciate any advice.
Scott
Help! Looking for some coaching (cycling that is)
Hi, I started cycling after a running injury (I'm sure a familiar story) about 6 months ago. At first, I thought of it as a sort of punishment but now, I LOVE riding and have really started to increase my speed and mileage. However, I really need help with learning some of the basics of not only maintenance, but on basic riding skills. I just found out I have been riding with a psi of 40. I'm afraid to change certain gears for fear that my chain will fall off and I won't be able to put it back on :) Is there anyone out there who perhaps coaches?
thanks,
Marky (girl not a boy nickname :)
B to A Rider Training Series. BARTS is Finally Here.
Thank you to everyone for waiting patiently for BARTS.
Some route questions
Hi all,
I'm celebrating a major milestone (passed my PhD comps!), so I'm considering a three-day credit-card tour either this weekend or next, linking up some of the wilder areas around here. My current route ideas are described below. I haven't ridden most of these roads, so I'd like to see what the collective wisdom has to say about them. Also, if you can recommend places to stay in Port Jervis or Woodstock, places to eat along the way, highlights you think I might be missing out on, other dream-ride ideas, etc., please let me know.
Ride to Montauk this Sat.
If you are interested in doing an informal ride to Montauk this Sat. contact me there is a group going for the NBR running club and a bunch of other folks from Queens. They are leaving in the AM and taking the train back in the PM. If you want to stay over that can be arranged. Email me.
