Bicycle Storage near Grand Central

Submitted by teechao on Thu, 09/13/2012 - 12:02pm

I recently moved to the city and currently work near Grand Central.

I would like to commute to work (from Queens) but my office building's bicycle access is limited. I am only allowed to bring my bike into the freight elevator from 8am-4pm on weekdays, although, I never get out before 4pm.

My other option is to buy a folding bike where I am allowed to bring it on the passenger elevator freely.

Does anyone know of a storage area near Grand Central? Coming from the suburbs, I never had to lock up my bike as I would just bring it home with me. Since the bike I have is a Cervelo Soloist, would you recommend I buy a cheaper commuter bike or just use my Cervelo and make sure the storage is extremely secure.

Thanks.

New Ride Feature: Re-List Ride

Submitted by dortsman on Thu, 09/13/2012 - 11:26am

This was requested in various forms, however Bob Ross crystialzed the funcationality request.  Here's how it works:

The new button is listed on every ride page.  It simply opens an new ride form and pre-populates the fields with the data from the original ride. It displays a message indicating that ride is a re-listing and to be sure to choose a new date.  The date defaults to the current date as is normal, as opposed to the original ride date.

New Message Board Feature: Active Members

Submitted by dortsman on Thu, 09/13/2012 - 11:13am

Hello...  This went out overnight.  Not sure who/where it was suggested, but thanks. We now indicate a message board posters status as a paid 'active member' of NYCC.

Several things to note:

- If you have some graphics skills and want to create an icon.  Please do and send it my way ([email protected])

- What else would you like to see?  Number of Posts? Number of rides led? Number of rides done? Anything else?

Waitlist Update - Getting better, still some issues

Submitted by dortsman on Thu, 09/13/2012 - 10:53am

Hello...

A quick update on the waitlist functionality.

(1) Emails now go out!  Thanks to all my testers.

(2) There is the possiblity that you can join two rides at the same time.  Here's how the bug works... You join two waitlists hoping to get on a ride.  A spot on Ride X opens up (and you now get an email), then a few hours later a spot on Ride Y opens up (you should get an email here too).  Now, you are joined on two rides.  Here's what you need to do... (1) keep an eye out for this situation. (2) Withdraw, as soon as possible, from one of the ride.

Keep the reports coming.  Communicate with our stellar Ride Coordinators.  And, enjoy this great weather.

Ride safe...darren

Still for sale: ENY spot including socks

Submitted by MKaufman on Wed, 09/12/2012 - 10:09pm

As some of you know, I broke my elbow, so won't be riding this year. If anyone is interested in buying my spot for ENY, please contact me at [email protected], or through the MB. I paid $43.00, and registered early enough to get the socks too. Thanks, Mindy

I'd like to ellaborate on some of what David Hauss reported from the Community Council Meeting held on Monday and add some other important information.  Ellen Jaffe and I both attended the meeting, along with David and a couple of other cyclists.

Waitlist Update - Emails Still Not Going Out

Submitted by nyccadmin on Tue, 09/11/2012 - 2:25pm

Hello NYCC-

A quick update on the waitlist functionality...

First, emails for waitlister to rider are NOT going out.  We hope to have it done by the weekend.  However, it's likely the fix will not be done in time.  So, keep an eye on your rides/waitlists.

Second, there are reports that creating a ride with unlimited riders was having issues.  We are aware and rolling out a fix and more simplied UI next week.

Thanks for patience and thanks to my testers from yesterday.

Heard in the paceline

Heard on first chilly morning in Central Park,  “I didn’t recognize anyone with their clothes on”.

And I thought this was a wholesome cycling club.
