Northwestern University Student Research on Bike Locks
Hi Everyone,
I'm a student at Northwestern University working on a class project for NUVention, a class focused on innovation.
We are currently looking at innovative ways to improve upon bike locks. To that end, we put together a short survey I was really hoping you could help with. It shouldn't take more than 5 minutes of your time.

Thanks for the help!

Note to B SIG Registrants
By now, everyone who registered for the B SIG as of Sunday should have received, in addition to the initial email welcoming you to the B SIG, a follow-up email with detailed instructions for Saturday's laps/orientation.
If you've received these emails, you're good to go. (Those who registered after Sunday will be receiving the follow-up email by Wednesday.)
If you ever strip the threads on your crank
I had the unfortunate experience of learning what to do when you strip the pedal threads on a crank. They can actually be repaired.
I was traveling by car with a bike, and failed to reinsert the pedals properly which ended up stripping the crank after a couple of hilly rides. (I actually got to ride in Big Sur for an hour!!!)
You need to find a repair or restoration shop that will drill out the hole and insert a steel thread with adhesive. They need special tools and parts of course. I found such a shop in Vista, Calif. I heard on ebikes that Champion Bikes on Amsterdam and 104 also does this kind of work.
You can see photos of the repair--and also of the really cool vintage restoration shop I found--here:
additional C groups this spring?
Hello, I am new to the club and wondering whether additional C groups typically open up in the Spring on the weekends? Both the SIGS and STS for C riders and the wait lists are already closed. Thanks, Patricia

No more parking on Hudson Terrace
This was in today's local Fort Lee paper: "Kindly be advised that the Residential Parking Ordinance, 289-36 has been ammended as follows: The following streets will be resident parking only on Saturday, Sunday, and Holidays. This means that only residents and their vistors who possess the proper permits will be allowed to park on these streets on weekends and holidays. This ordinance excludes meters, metered parking is open to all vehicles. Monday through Friday, residential parking is in effect 9 to 5 for all and must have the proper permits." This ordinance affects numerous streets, including Hudson Terrace, Myrtle Ave. (side street by Strictly Bicycles), Central Road and Central Ave.

If you knew the club's most beloved member was undergoing hip surgery, would you write him a note?
Ed Fishkin, Dr. Ed, is having hip surgery Tuesday.
Not that I, of all people, am the arbiter and practitioner of what is nice, but it would be nice if his friends wrote a note here of good wishes and encouragement.
Here is a note from him, not that he knows I am putting it here, which I do to inform you where he will be if the spirit moves you to visit him:
The rottenest excuse for endangering a cyclist you'll ever hear.
...So there I am in the bike lane on First Ave., around 69th St. I'm stopped at a red light. A cab is next to me on my right. (The bike lane is on the far left.) I'm going straight. He doesn't have his turn signal on. But I have a feel for these things.
Me: You're not turning, are you?
Cab: Why?
Me: Just asking. You can't be. Your turn signal isn't on. Are you turning?
Cabbie: Yeah.
Me: Oh, your turn signal's broken.
Cabbie: It's not broken.
Me: It's not on.
Cabbie: I'm saving my battery.
Need I add more was said? I have many failings. Among the greatest is my not getting cab numbers and reporting the drivers.
