24/7 Bike Repair Parts From Vending Machines?

Submitted by JHunt on Thu, 08/07/2014 - 11:01am

Here's an article I just found on Good B (Good Business) New York http://good-b.com/bikestoc/

Has anyone seen/tired any of these machines from Bikestock or others?

//Cycling companies with design/fabrication office in New York area?

Submitted by jpiercy on Wed, 08/06/2014 - 8:40pm

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know of bike or component companies who have offices in New York (or nearby) responsible for design through fabrication? It seems that most of the big guys are in California or in the Midwest. Any insight would be much appreciated- please respond to [email protected] if possible. Thanks.

Ride safe,

Justin

SAD YUM YUM NEWS FROM NYACK

Submitted by JJacobson on Wed, 08/06/2014 - 3:40pm

The cavernous 5,000 square foot Playhouse Market on South Broadway in the old Helen Hayes Playhouse space has apparently closed.  It opened earlier this year with an investment which had to be very large.  There was a picket line of former employees there today claiming that their paychecks and loans to the management have bounced.

For those interested in riding up north - Ride 4 United Way

Submitted by TorontoNYCyclist on Tue, 08/05/2014 - 12:08pm

Hello, I recently had the opportunity to meet some NYCC members on a trip and frequently ride in NY when I am there.  I would like to take this opportunity to invite all NYCC members who may be in Toronto or the GTA area on the weekend of Aug. 24 to join me for the Ride 4 United Way. There are three distances of 60km, 100km, and 160km, and the ride is very well organized and fully supported by volunteers and members of the community.

Someone asked me about a device that improves the use of your bike cleat. My description is not clear, but so is my recollection.

It was about a new device that was on Kickstarter regarding making your existing cleat more user-friendly for walking, or something similar.

I believe a reply post said that he/she had invested in it.

Any leads?

Thanks,

Hank

Bee Caution on South County Trailway, Westchester

Submitted by Antonio P on Tue, 08/05/2014 - 8:12am

There is a lot of bee activity on the Southern Trail just north of Woodlands lake.  I was stung last Sunday and friends reported on two separate occasions within the past two weeks of running into bees as they rode past the lake area.  There must be a hive close to the trail.  Approach the with caution.

(edit: thanks Antonio! I updated the title to better catch the eye of Putnam / S County / N County Trailway users. Everyone be careful out there! -BV)

Whats the best route from NYC to Fairfield

Submitted by Spin on Mon, 08/04/2014 - 11:38am

Hi,

Was wanting some advice on riding from NYC to Fairfield.  I had a quick look at the ride library to see if there was anything there but nothing jumped out at me.

I'm guessing therefore that i need to create my own route and so would like ssome advise on the best way to do this.  I have also just purchased (yesterday) a Garmin 810, but haven't had a chance yet to see how i can utilise it.

Any suggestions greatfully received,

Thanks,

Alex
