Malicious Prank

Submitted by RPu on Mon, 08/18/2014 - 7:49am

I had locked my bike using a U-Bolt before going ino the grocery store.  The front wheel was secured by an allen-headed skewer, that required a hex wrench to open.

When I came out, someone had removed the front skewer without removing the wheel.  Fortunately, I noticed the fron t wheel was loose before getting ono  bike.  Otherwise, I could hae had a serious accident.

Do people like the Allen-headed screws, or its more avanced cousin, the Pitlok, that requires a special key that you need to carry with you at all times?  Or should I simply return to the more traiditional quick-releas system?

Frederick, MD

Just got back from the Tour de Frederick- happy to report great roads, scenery, and terrain. Endless miles of stress free riding.

Noticed that there is a Grand Fondo there next weekend. It's a long drive to get there but worth it once you're there.

- to Marek Zarzycki for helping with setup and cleanup

- to the Ride Coordinators who organized

- and leaders who led some 150 members out and back

- to Bill and Jamis Cycles for helping members with bike repairs

- to Events Cordinator John Semel who remembered three of the most beloved words in the English language: "B-B-Q"

To all of you, including anyone whose contributions I neglected to mention ...

Thank you!

If You're Headed To The Rockaways Today

Submitted by MTownsend on Sun, 08/17/2014 - 6:41am

be prepared to walk your bike across the Gil Hodges Bridge as part of the "Operation Safe Cycle" crackdown.

I was able to get across the bridge to the Rockaways early enough that the officers weren't out yet but by the time I was prepared to head home they were there, stationed on each end of the bridge with walkie-talkies in hand.

You're better off using the Cross Bay Bridge.

Submitted by J S on Sat, 08/16/2014 - 9:27pm

FYI, All Class is full speed ahead for tomorrow.  There is a small chance of rain, but it's not substantial enough to change any plans.

I will post early tomorrow AM to confirm.

Did you lose your keys on Haven Avenue this morning (August 16)?  If so, message me with a description, and I'll get them back to you.

SIG Cue Sheets

Submitted by nychef on Fri, 08/15/2014 - 9:52pm

I was looking through the ride library and notice that the A and A-Classic cue sheets have not been updated since 2012.  Any chance of 2013 and 2014 being added?  I think they were some great rides.

Seven Axiom Circa 2002 Replacement Fork Suggestions:

Submitted by Rmarcus on Fri, 08/15/2014 - 6:28pm

Seven Axiom Circa 2002 Replacement Fork Suggestions:
My Wound Up fork carbon seems to be delaminating on one side and so I am replacing it..
The one I have is a Threaded model, but this may be a good time to change to threadless.

Any suggestions for a nice fork that will NOT break the bank as I bought the bike used 4 years ago.

I believe we need the state legislature to put this into effect… a body that could (and perhaps should) be referred to as a Confederacy of Dunces (apologies to Messrs. Swift and Toole)… which means it will be a challenge, to say the least, but a worthwhile challenge.
