query about best streets for commuter riding in Rye NY

Submitted by bvd33 on Thu, 08/07/2014 - 10:16pm

Hi.  I am about to move to Rye, NY and am hoping to commute to the train station by bike.  I was wondering if anyone knows whether there is a bike lane on Boston Post Rd or if there is another route from the golf course area to the train station that is more bike friendly.  Thanks,

Marilyn and I plan to take the WS Bike Path, over the Manhattan Br, Brooklyn Br Park Bike Path, follow the Gowanus to Ft Hamilton area, then the Brooklyn Shorefront Bike Path to Bay Parkway, pick up lunch in Sheepshead Bay, and on to Manhattan Beach.

After lunch, Brooklyn Streets back to either the Manhattan or Williamsburg Br, or bail via various subways. Email for mmetup time and place.

Perhaps you are not going on the NJ Fondo ride September 6th. . . perhaps you are in the mood for a fun and beautiful ride.  Jody and Christy have an idea. . . . .We are leading a 96 mile A20 ride from Cold Spring to Kent, Conn and back to Cold Spring.  Absolutely beautiful ride, rolling terrain, doesn’t get any prettier.

Has anyone seen/tired any of these machines from Bikestock or others?

//Cycling companies with design/fabrication office in New York area?

Submitted by jpiercy on Wed, 08/06/2014 - 8:40pm

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know of bike or component companies who have offices in New York (or nearby) responsible for design through fabrication? It seems that most of the big guys are in California or in the Midwest. Any insight would be much appreciated- please respond to [email protected] if possible. Thanks.

Ride safe,

Justin

SAD YUM YUM NEWS FROM NYACK

The cavernous 5,000 square foot Playhouse Market on South Broadway in the old Helen Hayes Playhouse space has apparently closed.  It opened earlier this year with an investment which had to be very large.  There was a picket line of former employees there today claiming that their paychecks and loans to the management have bounced.

For those interested in riding up north - Ride 4 United Way

Submitted by TorontoNYCyclist on Tue, 08/05/2014 - 12:08pm

Hello, I recently had the opportunity to meet some NYCC members on a trip and frequently ride in NY when I am there.  I would like to take this opportunity to invite all NYCC members who may be in Toronto or the GTA area on the weekend of Aug. 24 to join me for the Ride 4 United Way. There are three distances of 60km, 100km, and 160km, and the ride is very well organized and fully supported by volunteers and members of the community.

Looking for an old post on this Message Board

Someone asked me about a device that improves the use of your bike cleat. My description is not clear, but so is my recollection.

It was about a new device that was on Kickstarter regarding making your existing cleat more user-friendly for walking, or something similar.

I believe a reply post said that he/she had invested in it.

Any leads?

Thanks,

Hank
