Proposed Amendments to NYCC by-laws effective 1/1/15

Submitted by NWeissman on Sat, 09/06/2014 - 4:15pm

To the Membership:

Prominent members and the Board have worked diligently to propose updates and improvements to the NYCC by-laws.  Outlined below is the existing text (if any); the proposed new text for each amendment; and notes explaining why the changes are being proposed.  Highlights:

- creates a better, more fair process to remove a member's status

- authorizes Board to delete, as well as add, elected positions

- enables Board Officers to appoint individuals and form committees

- adds boilerplate "conflicts of interest” language

- raises quorum for Membership Meetings

Last minute A-Ride added for Sunday 9/7: Beacon via Storm King>NYC

Submitted by BRoss on Sat, 09/06/2014 - 9:19am

For the seemingly tiny handful of NYCC A-riders *not* doing the New Jersey Gran Fondo tomorrow, we've submitted a last-minute ride from Beacon over Storm King through Saddle River back home to NYC:

The wind is expected to be from the north on Sunday so let's ride south all day. We'll follow the A-SIG route from Beacon. The climbing is front-loaded going over Storm King and some of the climbs west of 9W to the Orchards. Following a few rollers after the Orchards we'll have mostly downhill 15-mile run.

Child bike trailers

Submitted by MGrinthal on Fri, 09/05/2014 - 7:18pm

I'd love to hear recommendations for bike trailers for toddlers.  My daughter is 16 months old, 24 lbs, and I figure it's about time we go for the hour record together.

Thanks!

Annual Andiamo Motorcycle Ride Sunday

Submitted by Cyclegalnycc on Fri, 09/05/2014 - 2:00pm

Thousands of motorcycles will be riding along this Sunday from Hardenburgh to points unknown.  Their website in the past does not clue us in as to route, so just be aware.  They usually take 501 north and Palisades or 9W back.

Repaving at top of Alpine

Submitted by Cyclegalnycc on Fri, 09/05/2014 - 1:57pm

The road leading from the PIP at the top of Alpine climb to 9W has been repaved and is magnificent!  However, there is the equivalent of a speed bump (IN BLACK) where you turn right, going north, into the parking lot of the PIP.  It's difficult to see till you get right up on it.  It is going to remain as is, but will hopefully be painted yellow or white at some point.

Last few weeks there's been a great deal of crushed stone left on the road due to repaving. Anyone know if Rockland sweeps the roads to remove all the excess stone. It's making rides back from Motts Farm and Lake Toriati particularly unpleasant.

Due to the dodgy weather, I have cancelled tomorrow's ride and re-listed it for next Saturday, which, the forecasts tell us, will be an ideal riding day -- 74 degrees and no rain.

I will not be surprised if Norma Sax also re-lists her parallel ride; but that' her call.

Now watch tomorrow turn out to be a fine day!

Hudson Terrace Update and Escape New York

Submitted by jpiven on Fri, 09/05/2014 - 11:44am

Hiya folks,

After a number of conversations with the good Deputy Chief of Englewood Cliffs, he actually remonstrated with the county paving people and convinced them to postpone most of the milling and repaving until after Escape New York.

There will still be some work done on small problemed patches, but Deputy Chief McMorrow assured me that Hudson Terrace would be smooth and passable by ENY on September 20.

So while crews will be working on the roads until then, those riding in ENY need not take those labyrinthine (and precarious) detours around Hudson Terrace....
