Please take my Escape New York Registation

Submitted by steiniger on Tue, 09/09/2014 - 5:29pm

Hello all,

I recently received a prestigious professional development fellowship for school teachers which requires me to abandon my plans to Escape New York on Saturday, September 20th.

NYCC does not refund, but they do allow transfer of registrations.  If you would kindly take my registration off my hands, it would be greatly appreciated.  Think of it as indirectly positively impacting my 6th grade science students.

Thanks,

Matt

Multi-tool recommendations?

Submitted by MGately on Mon, 09/08/2014 - 2:27pm

Lost two different multi-tools to the carry-on police, returning from London last week. Apparently their stricture against "any tools" is stricter than the TSA, which permitted them in the other direction. Any recommendations for replacements? I prefer something minimal, but with an allen-key for cleats and, if possible, pedals. Thanks!

Jeff Vogel asks that this sad & upsetting link be posted.

Submitted by RRosenthal on Mon, 09/08/2014 - 12:56pm

Jeff is travelling and unable to post this long link from the device he has. He asked that I do it for him.

The reason for posting it is Karl Dittebrandt, who, for many years was a very active participant and rider in our club, is still on the club roster. The link is about his daughter.  http://crashnegligence.com/mosier-firefighter-and-emt-ellen-dittebrandt-killed-in-bicycle-accident-on-i-84-hood-river-oregon-crash-video-news/

Bicycle Cop Ticketing Cyclists in CP

Submitted by EBrewster on Mon, 09/08/2014 - 10:30am

I don't know if anyone has already posted this, but . . .

I went into Central Park a little after 8:00 AM this morning to do some laps.  South of the 90th entrance on the West side, there was a bicycle cop standing around at the side of the road near a traffic light, taking pictures of cyclists, and giving tickets to cyclists who went through the light while it was red.  Be carefull:  you might not notice him if you're not paying attention.

Clydsdale Wheels

Submitted by Smgolub on Mon, 09/08/2014 - 10:20am

After cracking a rim, having the wheel rebuilt and breaking 3 spokes in the past 6 weeks I'm looking into getting Clydsdale wheels.  Any suggestions or recommendations?  Steel or ceramic bearings?

Escape New York - Is It Possible to Change Ride?

Submitted by TravelAsh on Sat, 09/06/2014 - 9:20pm

I've been all over Active.com and the FAQs here for Escape NY. Is it possible to change the ride you're registered for? I'm registered for the century and need to change to the half.

Thanks,

Amy

Early Morning Traffic on Brooklyn Bridge - September 7th

Submitted by MTownsend on Sat, 09/06/2014 - 6:32pm

Anyone looking to ride over the Brooklyn Bridge in either direction tomorrow morning would be well advised to take the Manhattan Bridge.

The route for the NYC Century takes riders over the Brooklyn Bridge and there is very little room for anyone else.  If you're travelling from Brooklyn to Manhattan there is even less room.

Save yourself the aggravation and take the Manhattan Bridge.

Proposed Amendments to NYCC by-laws effective 1/1/15

Submitted by NWeissman on Sat, 09/06/2014 - 5:15pm

To the Membership:

Prominent members and the Board have worked diligently to propose updates and improvements to the NYCC by-laws.  Outlined below is the existing text (if any); the proposed new text for each amendment; and notes explaining why the changes are being proposed.  Highlights:

- creates a better, more fair process to remove a member's status

- authorizes Board to delete, as well as add, elected positions

- enables Board Officers to appoint individuals and form committees

- adds boilerplate "conflicts of interest” language

- raises quorum for Membership Meetings

Last minute A-Ride added for Sunday 9/7: Beacon via Storm King>NYC

Submitted by BRoss on Sat, 09/06/2014 - 10:19am

For the seemingly tiny handful of NYCC A-riders *not* doing the New Jersey Gran Fondo tomorrow, we've submitted a last-minute ride from Beacon over Storm King through Saddle River back home to NYC:

The wind is expected to be from the north on Sunday so let's ride south all day. We'll follow the A-SIG route from Beacon. The climbing is front-loaded going over Storm King and some of the climbs west of 9W to the Orchards. Following a few rollers after the Orchards we'll have mostly downhill 15-mile run.
