Any evening riders for CP loops?

Submitted by eshapiro on Thu, 09/18/2014 - 3:47pm

Hi--

I don't see any posts for evening loops, but would love to join anyone for 2-4 easy laps in the park at around 7 PM a few days a week before it gets too cold to ride! Feel free to shoot me an email [email protected] if you would like to join.

How many bikers cross the bridge? New GWB counter produces first tally

Submitted by JGalante on Thu, 09/18/2014 - 3:21pm

Until this month, there were no exact numbers on the number of bicyclists and pedestrians who traverse the busiest span in the world. But thanks to a counter the Port Authority installed earlier this year, now we know: An average of 1,700 cyclists and 900 pedestrians cross the George Washington Bridge each day.

Transportation Alternatives and the New Jersey Bike & Walk Coalition pushed the Port Authority to install the counter ahead of a $1 billion project to replace the bridge's 592 suspender ropes, announced in May. The budget for the project also includes funding to rehabilitate the bridge's main cables, replace the north and south sidewalks, and improve pedestrian and bicycle access ramps.

Bag Check at ENY?

Submitted by JRinNYC on Thu, 09/18/2014 - 1:04pm

Will there be any bag check available at ENY? Somewhere I can leave a bag at the starting line and then pick it up after I've completed the ride? Reason I ask, I will be taking the subway in. I would prefer to wear shorts over my biking shorts and sneakers on the subway then change at Sakura Park for the ride and not have to carry these items. I'm assuming there isn't as nothing has been mentioned. Any updates would be appreciated. Thanks.

Up tick in CP ticketing?

Submitted by DPols on Thu, 09/18/2014 - 1:02pm

As I rode through the park today I encountered a police checkpoint on the East Drive across from the Boathouse. Three officers were stopping all cyclists at the red light. One asked about the practice when there are no pedestians at the crosswalk and got the old line that if cars have to stop at a red light so do bicyclists. Somehow that does not apply to going the wrong way on a one way street. This was after 8AM. I am wondering what is the experience of those who ride in th 6-8AM time period. Any noticable police activity?

ENY Festival - What to do with bikes?

Submitted by TravelAsh on Thu, 09/18/2014 - 11:42am

Hi,

At the ENY festival, will there by areas to "park" bikes or do we just keep them as we wander around? Just checking so I know if I need to bring something to lock up.

Thanks!

Hudson Terrace update

Submitted by Cyclegalnycc on Wed, 09/17/2014 - 5:17pm

The road is looking awesome as far as it goes, but you'll need to ride milled roadway till it's finished.  I was able to ride the western sidewalk from the gwb to Strictly, where I turned left and went up to Lemoine.  The milling takes quite a toll on the hands after a bit.  Coming home, I again took the sidewalk almost all the way to the bridge.  The roadway is paved now, but only one lane of traffic (north-going) was getting through.  I was assured it will be DONE by Saturday for ENY!
