Report from this afternoon’s meeting with CP Precinct Commander Corey

Submitted by NWeissman on Fri, 09/19/2014 - 8:54pm

People,

Late this afternoon, principals of CRCA and I were summoned to the Central Park Police Precinct Headquarters. This is what I can report and was asked to share.

Expect more enforcement in Central Park for the following:

- Failure to yield right of way to pedestrians

- Going through red lights

- Wearing headphones on both ears

In addition, ALL cyclists are subject to obey ALL rules of the NYS Bicycle Laws, Rules and Regulations, at ALL times.

Our thoughts go out to Ms. Tarlov and her family.

Anyone used it? Good/bad/indifferent?

Join Team Lucarelli/Castaldi-NY Velocity for Escape NY A Ride

Submitted by dhfine on Fri, 09/19/2014 - 1:01pm

Team Lucarelli/Castaldi-NY Velocity will be leading an "A" ride for Escape New York. Strong riders looking for a great group ride should come along.

We will meet at around 6:45 AM at Sakura park and congregate just outside the fence to the south of the entrance.  At 7:15, we ride. The pace will be steady and we will try to keep everyone together. It may get a bit more selective on the longer climbs, but we always regroup at the top. We’ll stop for mechanical issues and the like.

Central Park emergency meeting with NYPD

Submitted by GeorgeArcarola on Fri, 09/19/2014 - 12:01pm

Most of us are aware of the tragic Central Park incident that took place yesterday.

Neile Weissman is currently on his way to the Park for an emergency meeting with the commander of the Central Park Precinct.

At the conclusion of that meeting, more info will be posted.

Thanks,

George

It seems a sad coincidence that Timothy Egan’s piece gets published on the same day that many of us find out a cyclist and a pedestrian in Central Park were involved in a tragic crash, the second such crash in a matter of weeks.

Escape New York 2014 - If you've got a car, we need you so bad

Submitted by Ken Scher on Thu, 09/18/2014 - 9:30pm

Escape New York is in like, 30 hours. Although we've had great response from club members (and non members alike), we are critically short of people with cars and driver's licenses to assist Jerry in marking the routes tomorrow, and to help get all the non-car-owning volunteers from Sakura to one of the four rest stops on Saturday.

If you are a person with a car and a driver's license, please consider blowing off work tomorrow, Friday, to help with route marking, and please also consider cancelling whatever other plans you might have had for Saturday to help with rest stop transportation.

Thanks!

Route Question follow up..

Submitted by Sir Roger on Thu, 09/18/2014 - 6:18pm

SUCCESS  !! I made it to the top of Bear..

But I have an important question to ask.. My pal beat me to the top.. He was riding a triple !!!  I know I know..

I usually beat this guy on everything.. question is what sort of time penalty per mile should I enforce or should I just void the result and challenge him to do it with two plates instead of three...

Disclaimer.. I was riding compact 34/50 with 12/27.. but even so.. I mean come on there must be a rule.. a triple.. he's like 15 years younger than me...
