Henry Hudson Drive Closure

Submitted by Cyclegalnycc on Wed, 09/24/2014 - 9:56pm

October 4 (Saturday) River Road will be closed from the south entrance to and including the Ross Dock from dawn until noon.  (I'm not sure if it's to prep for the MS Bike Ride the following day, but it could be.)

Big shout out to our very own "Alan from Midtown", who called into the show last night and voiced his opinion about the topic everyone is talking about.

Want a Lift to Shelter Island?

Submitted by PStorey on Tue, 09/23/2014 - 4:32pm

This weekend, Pat Mullen is reprising his wonderful Shelter Island (and South Fork) Ride, and I am reprising my offer to transport up to three cyclists and their bikes to and from the start at Greenport.  First come, first serve.  Gas money accepted, but not expected (I'd be driving anyway). Lemme know.

Cyclists who work in Finance

Submitted by cyerkes on Tue, 09/23/2014 - 4:09pm

hi all... I am a longtime cyclist/racer and work at Bloomberg News. A colleague is starting to write a news story.
...
Esme Deprez, a reporter at Bloomberg News, is looking to talk to New Yorkers who are both passionate about cycling and work in finance. Part of the story is that she is wondering how Wall Street cyclists are reacting to the crash in Central Park, and how they think they and riding in NYC may be affected by the whole situation...

Places to ride intervals or laps

Places to ride intervals or laps

If anyone is looking for a secluded place to ride intervals or laps I have two recommendations in Queens.

Kissena Park Velodrome

You may want to consider going to the Kissena Park Velodrome in Queens.  The entrance is well hidden on Booth memorial Avenue and may be inconvenient to reach for people that do not live in the area. The course is a little bumpy.   I often ride there early weekend mornings.  I often have the velodrome to myself.   The few people that I do meet are polite and watch out for each other on the velodrome. Since the velodrome is only for bicycles you may use aero bars or ride a track bike without brakes.

Flushing Bay Promenade

Look, you graduated college; I didn't. So perhaps this makes sense to you; it doesn't to me.

You received a note today from the club Board of Directors that admonishes you to abide the Central Park Cycling Protocol. One of the lines directs you to:

  • Never ride in the recreation lane when the park is closed to car traffic.
