Garmin 810 failure.

Submitted by mgeller1 on Fri, 10/17/2014 - 5:56pm

My garmin 810 thought I was ending a route instead of starting one, so I shut the unit off to restart. Upon restart it would begin its start sequence and immediately after loading maps  would shut down. This would recur repeatedly without fail after every restart. I googled the problem and read that someone else had the experience and the offered suggestion was to remove the optional memory card. I tried this and the 810 now turns on. So I guess I now have a bad or corrupted extra memory card. Anyone have this happen, and is the solution to throw out the card and buy a new one? Is this a known Garmin 810 issue?

Query: Consumer Reports seeking a near-retiring cyclist

Submitted by BVan Nieuwenhoven on Fri, 10/17/2014 - 5:17pm
Quoted from an email:

"... I'm writing [an article] for Consumer Reports Money Adviser, the personal-finance newsletter of Consumer Reports.

My column is called Retirement Dreams. I'm looking to profile someone who in nearing retirement and planning to ramp up his or her physical activity once in retirement. I'm wondering if among your club membership there might be someone who currently does weekend or weeklong cycling trips, and plans to do a big, cross-country trip, or a challenging biking expedition once in retirement.

Late B15 listing for Saturday - Whortleberry

Submitted by NWeissman on Fri, 10/17/2014 - 10:31am

Given the Saturday wait lists, I'm posting a hilly, but moderately paced, B15/50.

Limited bail options until lunch, but by then you've gotten through the hardest portion.

Submitted by BVan Nieuwenhoven on Thu, 10/16/2014 - 3:28pm

(Note: this message was linked from a mail-blast so a lot of people are coming into this from that link)

We are hosting our annual 9W Cleanup Ride - and we need your help!

All B-Riders who are interested in riding and volunteering:

* Our B15 ride still has two ride slots open, so sign up here! http://nycc.org/node/72788

* We are looking to establish a B17 ride! So we need leaders AND riders! If you are interested, email me at
[email protected]

Bold band of "20" formed and committed (to the movie, that is :>).

Ticket pickup details to be posted at a later point.  I do expect to be at NYCC meeting tomorrow night so that is one option for you; the other would be to  meet me early before doors open on Saturday @ Symphony Space, or to wait in line at their will-call window to pick up yours.

Not that I'd ever plunge down those slopes the tricksters ski and ride on . . .but I do enjoy seeing the Warren Miller film every so many years.  And it's time!

Hello All,

Thank you to all who responded. I especially want to thank Christy Guzzetta who recommended

PETER REID KOSKINEN.  Not only does he fix bikes, but he has a van that can transport 40 or more bikes to an event.

He was more than I asked for, knowledgeable, responsive and a great value.   I can highly recommend him.

The most important position on 2015's NYCC Board of Directors is. . . .

Submitted by CGuzzetta on Tue, 10/14/2014 - 12:35pm

Our Club elections are fast approaching.  I can think of no position more important this term than Public Relations Director.

The Club Bylaws define the role of the Public Relations Director as follows;

Paragraph (f). Public Relations Director. The Public Relations Director shallrepresent the Club to the media and other organizations on all issues of public opinion, in order to win and maintain public support of the Club and cyclists in general; advise the Board on the public relations implications of Club policy and program decisions; an develop and distribute informational and promotional materials to the public.

An invitation for you to come to tonight's wonderful program
