Sterling Forest Casino--Please Sign
This just came to my attention via the Appalachian Mountain Club. Apparently Sterling Forest State Park is being eyed as a possible site for the development of a casino. Please sign the petition below to speak out against this proposal.
For those not familiar, Sterling Forest is across the road from Harriman and is visited on many of our favorite cycling routes. It also contains some truly beautiful hiking terrain, including a section of the Appachian Trail.
Please note that the deadline for comments is Tuesday, September 30.
Now let's hear from the New York Times about cycling in Central Park
Address to 9/15 Town Hall with Polly Trottenberg
People,
Below is my address to the 9/15 Town Hall with NYC DOT Commissioner Polly Trottenberg. Its themes of personal and collective responsibility unfortunately anticipate what would transpire in Central Park three days later.

Goodwill on the road
Today I rode alone, as I frequently do...a nice, easy recovery ride through Tenafly/Englewood. I was on 501 (Piermont Rd) coming home, stopped at a red light at Hudson (I think) when I got a short honk from the van to my left. The guy smiled and gave me a double thumbs up. I was confused...first, I thought he was complimenting my look (uh, trying to tell me I'm cute), and then I realized...he's actually praising me for stopping at the red light and WAITING till it turned to green. That felt good. Too many light busters out there (unsafe ones; I've been known to go when there's no one coming either way).
