Cyclist Struck and Injured on 9W (Sunday, Nov 30, mid-morning)

Submitted by Komanoff on Sun, 11/30/2014 - 6:58pm

Cycling northbound on 9W this morning I observed, on the southbound side, three police cars with flasher lights, several bystander cyclists and what appeared to be an injured person prone on the pavement under a yellow heat blanket. This was less than a mile south of the turnoff to the Lamont Geological Observatory. The time was probably around 10:30 a.m.

A mysterious leaking tube

Submitted by HSchiffman on Fri, 11/28/2014 - 8:54pm

A few weeks ago I noticed a low rear tire as I was cycling from Penn Station after a ride. It turned out to be a hole in the tube on the rim side. I could find no source of the problem. After I replaced the tube there was no air loss riding a week later (last Saturday on rocky trails).

This part caught me by surprised "Witnesses told cops that Marshall, 31, was speeding the wrong way down West Drive, yelled at Tarlov to get out of the way, and then tried to swerve around her instead of braking."

Speeding the wrong way? Has that been reported already and I just missed it?

I have emailed all participants as well as the waitlist folks.  Too much snow on the shoulders of 9W...it had been snowing all morning here in the Heights and tomorrow it will be ice.  Ride cancelled.

Custom OSM Maps for Garmin

Submitted by Antonio P on Wed, 11/26/2014 - 4:21pm

I realized recently that the Garmin 510 has nav capability and that courses can be overlayed over a routable map similar to the 800/810. The problem, however, is that the 510 only has 20M of memory and no sd slot.  The size of each map file from openstreetmap is about 9M and several are needed to cover typical NYCC riding area.  I found the following site that allows users to create a custom routable OSM map in various formats.   http://extract.bbbike.org/.

Recommendation needed for a Physical Therapist

Submitted by RSchoenbohm on Mon, 11/24/2014 - 9:27am

A training partner of mine was seriously injured while riding to Central Park for laps and is in need of a recommendation for a Physical Therapist. Among her many injuries was damage to two tendons serving the right thumb. As she is a journalist and needs to recover her typing skills a PT that specializes in the hand would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.
