Still Room for More for the Southern California Cycling Camp in February
We've still got room for more at the cyling camp that's been set up for NYCCer's in Temecula, CA the last week in February. We have a nice group going so far, but the more the merrier. Again, the dates are Feb 23 - 27.
The riding's great and varied enough to accommodate folks of a wide range of abilities and the instruction and clinics are top notch. And the wine's pretty fantastic, too. It's a great way to shake off the winter cobwebs and get in shape for the Spring riding season. (And a great way to prep for the SIG!)
Announcing the (I think) 23rd annual wheelbuilding clinic--and, this year, truing for those who want only to learn to true.
As there has been a drop-off in those wanting to build a bike wheel from scratch, added this year is a component for those who only want to learn how to true their wheels.
Building? Bring a hub, rim (ideally with the same number of holes as the hub), and spokes (one for each hole, preferably the right length--consult me if in doubt); go home 3-ish hours later with a perfectly built wheel you'll have built yourself.
Truing? Bring your wheel, the more deformed the better. Go home 45 mins. later with a perfectly trued wheel you'll have trued.
When: A Saturday or Sunday in January or February, to be decided by the class.
Where: Our Lady of Peace church on East 62nd Street.
Cost: $0.
Registration: Closes Jan. 10
If you're a sedentary rat, this is the most encouraging news you'll have received all year.

So does a good lover."

Plumb Beach
I just rode to the Rockaways today, and found the greenway at Plumb Beach has been paved. No more slogging through the sand or trying your hand at cyclocross.
I also checked out the greenway on the north side of the peninsula. The end toward the Gil Hodges Bridge has been rebuilt, but the eastern section is as bad as ever.
"and those who take bicycles on crowded trains."
"Then there are the riders who lean on poles, preventing others from holding on; those who do not offer seats to elderly or pregnant riders; and those who take bicycles on crowded trains."
This Port Authority story has nothing to do with cycling. Or will it?
“The Legislatures of New Jersey and New York crossed party lines to pass Port Authority reform. The governors crossed party lines to obstruct it.”
