installing a mid cage derailleur and 11-32 cassette
I have a shimano set-up (34-50 and 11-28) and am looking to add an extra climbing gear for an upcoming event.
I was thinking of getting a mid-cage derailleur and an 11-32 cassette and swapping it in (and then most likely swapping it out lest I get too used to it. I will keep it in reserve for future events/older age, whichever comes first.)
I know it can be done technically.
I was wondering if there are any issues that I am not thinking about in going down this road.
(all old school opinions about "sucking it up" will be disregarded)
TdeF Telecast
What are the names of the two men who are on the panel with Bob Roll? Sometimes they are joined by Jens Vogt.
Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel bikes and cars
There is a segment on the most recent HBO's Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel about the growing battle between cyclists, autos and pedestrians in America. It refers to Copenhagen and Amsterdam as examples where they can coexist peacefully and how American cities should adopt their policies. It's worth checking out.
Speedplay Zero with 59mm spindle pedal to borrow or rent?
I have a standard (53mm) length spindle on my Speedplay Zero pedals. I'd like to try out the 59mm spindle, if anyone has a pair to let me use for a weekend. I'm located in midtown Manhattan or South Brooklyn. Thanks.
(Yep, I indeed have an upcoming fitting scheduled, but this is more for my own edification.)
Bike Box rental
Hi all - does anyone know an NYC bike shop which rents hard cased bike boxes?
Thanks
Andy

Recommendations for a child's starter bike?
A co-worker of mine asked me if I could recommend a good starter bike for her soon to be four year old son. Not having worked in a bike shop in decades, I was not able to give her any specific advice. I did suggest that she buy from a known manufacturer and that she buy from a bike shop and not a box store. She has looked at Trek, Giant and Raleigh so far. Any recommendations would really be appreciated. Also, it would be nice if the bike came in green, which is her son's favorite color. Thanks.
Swamp Ghost Frame Works, Gillette, NJ
I need a frame repair. Swamp Ghost has been recommended.
Any comments on their service or quality of their work?
Bicyclist impales neck on fence after pothole crash in Queens
No mention of cyclist wearing a helmut in article, whether that would have helped is debatable.
