I'm looking for reccomendations of day tours/road bike rentals/NYCC-like clubs in Tuscany/Rome areas. Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks!
Counterfeit bike frames,wheels and helmets!
See the article on Page D7 of this morning's (7/20/2015) NY Times - Bicycle Manufacturers Struggle to Swat Down Counterfeits. There is a safety issue here!

Anyone doing the Princeton Century August 1--Carpool?
Hi--my friend and I are doing the century in Princeton NJ on Aug 1 and are wondering how other people are getting there from the city. Happy to carpool/split a car rental if that's what others are doing!
Thanks!
Newly Opened High Bridge
Sorry if this has been covered previously. The refurbished High Bridge, which is now open to peds and cyclists - connecting Manhattan and the Bronx - is an absolute work of art, and offers amazing views up and down the river. It is a bit tricky finding the bike ramp however. It is at 167th and Edgecombe Avenue - one block east of Amsterdam. Surprisingly, there is no sign for the ramp - look for the opening in the fence and a sign that says "Sunken Playground". That's it.
Suggestion - if you are heading for the GWB, take a little detour and check out the High Bridge. Two bridges for the price of one! Also, if you are doing a ride from Manhattan that includes the Grand Concourse, the High Bridge is a nice alternative way to get there.
Enjoy!
Read what happened to former NYCC president Geo. Kaplan today.
He celebrated his 85th birthday.
(I won't be so banal as to say here, "Happy Birthday, Geo." I said it elsewhere.)
Vista Maria
Debating whether to do this segment. Already rode Peekmoose twice and Devils Kitchen twice( to be repeated in two weeks time). Any fans or detractors of Vista Maria. Would like to hear from you. In case you haven't noticed, I like to climb. My hesitation is based on not being that excited about the larger route in question which seems to pale to the Peekamoose century I rode and the Gran Fondo Devil's Kitchen route I've done.
Before I go to the Bike Shop ...
My rear wheel has a slight shake side to side. I'm not talking about the wheel being out of true. I mean if I try move the wheel side to side then it will move when it is on the bike. I didn't notice it on the road but I'm concerned that this will lead to a bigger problem. The front wheel does not do this. My training wheel does not do this. I checked that the skewer is tight.
Any things to check before I visit the bike shop?
Start point for Sunday Historic Sites Ride is moved to Grant's Tomb
West 72nd Street will be closed from CPW to the West Side Highway for the running part of the NYC Triathlon, all Sunday morning until 2:00 PM. I do not know if there will be any way to cross 72nd street on the West Side. Central Park may also be closed because the swim ends at 72nd Street, then they run on 72 to Central Park and around the upper loop above 72nd.
The ride to Historic Sites in an around Tappan will start from Grant's Tomb. If you are coming by subway don't emerge until you're north of 72nd.
We will start at Grant's Tomb instead of Eleanor Roosevelt Statue.

Bike advocacy: Take back the streets from UBER
Uber phoned me at noon today, when I was sleeping in, begging, "We need your help!"
So I got up and wrote the following to my councilmember, deBlasio, Mark-Viverito, and Rodriguez. I ride a lot in the city and constantly encounter violations and threats from this black plague.
