Bike Fit / Numbness

Submitted by BartB on Tue, 08/04/2015 - 8:04pm
Hi all,

Just recently I invested in a beautiful bike, thus far I have ridden 70 miles on it. The guys at the shop supposedly fitted me properly, but it does not seem so.

There are two issues:
1. After riding for about 20 minutes, my hands start to go numb.
2. When I finish riding my right foot (right side of the sole) is in pain when I unclip and step onto the  ground.

I have mentioned this to shop, but it seems no one knows the answer, any help is much appreciated.

Thank You,
BB

Hi all,

App for reporting cars parked in bike lane

Submitted by CWood on Mon, 08/03/2015 - 3:42pm

Jen Benepe writes about a DOT app for reporting parking violations. It's not clear if anyone will act on the reports -- but hey give it a shot! It creates a record and should be easy enough (if you have the smartphone, that is).

“Report illegal parking in progress to: @NYC311 http://on.nyc.gov/1heZLqI  or with App: http://on.nyc.gov/GL73rg ,” tweeted the NYC Department of Transportation.

Prejudicial ticketing for bikes?

Submitted by Duncan on Sun, 08/02/2015 - 3:52pm

I was ticketed on the last day of the month while riding a bike slowly through a stop sign  ( violation 1110AB) the two police officers were stationed obviously looking to ticket cyclists. While being written up I noticed 4-6 cars out of 8? rolling through the same stop( Violation 1110 A is a failure to stop) I informed the cops of this and he stated " we are not here for that", I am wondering if my case could be a prejudicial ticketing on the part of the NYPD. I am thinking if I were to go to court I could find out if any cars were given a failure to stop, if none were ( which I believe) then It could be seen as a form of harassment.

Any thoughts?

Cyclist Run Down by Distracted Driver - It's Deja Vu all over again

Submitted by hspergel on Sat, 08/01/2015 - 7:48am

My friend and colleague, Patrick Wanninkhof, was leading a group from Bike and Build on a trip from Maine to Santa Barbara this summer.  On Thursday, while riding through Oklahoma, he was run down by a driver who, according to the police report "Was distracted while looking at her phone..."  His riding companion, Bridget Anderson, had to be airlifted to a hospital because of serious leg injuries.

Patrick was a bright, enthusiastic and dedicated physics teacher who was looking forward to this trip all year.  This is a tragic loss for his family and our community.

Tour de Pancake - Beat The Heat Edition (B17)

Doesn't quite seem like the right kind of day for a ride to the Orchards or for a trek up to Cold Spring... but we can zip out in the morning to my favorite bike-lunch place and keep cool in the shade on the way home.

safe places to post?

Submitted by mezzpezz on Fri, 07/31/2015 - 3:45pm

Perhaps a weird question, but for good reason...

I posted in the marketplace section of our message board ISO someone to take my friend's spot on a bike cruise . No interest yet, but I wanted to reach out to other biking communities. But, since said person would be rooming with me, I have concerns about posting something on Craigslist.  Any thoughts on where else I can post my search? Is Reddit's biking sections better or worse than posting on Craigslist? Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Sunday Nanuet Canceled

Submitted by JHerzfeld on Fri, 07/31/2015 - 11:05am

Call it an over-abundance of caution, but given the heat forecast, the Nanuet ride is canceled. No doubt some of you can handle it, however, experience at doing this route at high temps with others has proven that many, even most, start out with confidence, end up wilting, and drop. There's a very good chance that it could turn out to be no fun at all, or worse, in such cases.

Time permitting, the ride may be re-listed later in the summer, when the weather could be more hospitable.
