B SIG is ON for Saturday April 1

Submitted by FLeffel on Fri, 03/31/2017 - 9:08pm

The B SIG ride is ON for Saturday. However, we're pushing the start time back. 16s and 17s will start at 10 AM. 18s will receive notice from their leaders about ther start time. Please get to the start at least 15 minutes early, whatever your group's start time is.

We will continue to monitor and if conditions change for the worse, we will post a change on the MB by 6:30 tomorrow AM.

Thanks for hanging in there.

Anyone know a good place to rent a great road bike in Denver?

Also, any recommendations for good 30-80 mile routes in Denver?

Mike Hall

Submitted by blythe.austin on Fri, 03/31/2017 - 12:51pm

Hi all - has anyone heard about any plans to memorialize Mike Hall in New York?  I've reached out to Rapha (which sponsored the Indian Pacific Wheel Race and is a British company) to see if they're planning an event. If they don't, it'd be nice to plan something through NYCC. Maybe a memorial ride or gathering in Central Park.

If you'd like to encourage Rapha to organize something, you can email them at [email protected]

[Bike Boxes / Travel] Bike Box Alan or...

Submitted by tcadoo on Thu, 03/30/2017 - 6:53pm

Looking to purchase a bike box for travel. I have seen good reviews for the Bike Box Alan, and that it compares well to others at 2x the price.

Any thoughts on this case? Recommendations for others?

(And no, I am not interested in a folding or other easy to transport style bike)

Info Please - St Tropez

Submitted by Sir Roger on Thu, 03/30/2017 - 4:41pm

Does anyone have any experience cycling near St Tropez.

Full disclosure...I have not won the lottery..

A pal of mine has just taken a job that comes with a 2 bed appartment and he has invited me to come down this summer.

Since I am planning on being in the UK with bike for the last couple of weeks of August it seems like a no brainer to catch a plane for the Cote D'azur for a long weekend..

Infos ?? Routes ?? Experiences ? Horror stories.. ??

Does anyone know if it's bikeable up until Alpine Circle these days?

Rockland County: interesting information about major NYCC ride destination

Submitted by JJacobson on Thu, 03/30/2017 - 7:15am

Of New York state's 62 counties, Rockland is the second healthiest.  Based on statistics such as longevity, infant birthweight, high school graduation rate, access to exercise, residents per doctor, etc. go to:http://www.lohud.com/story/news/health/2017/03/29/ny-healthiest-live-rockland-putnam-westchester/99723762/

Another interesting, but I assume unrelated fact,  is that of the 3,000 counties in the US, Rockland has the highest percentage of Jewish residents.

Thanks and happy riding!

Very, very good health news for aging cyclists

Submitted by RRosenthal on Wed, 03/29/2017 - 6:55am

I am forever amazed how exceedingly highly accomplished are some of our members. I just watched two hours f a 3-part documentary on PBS about war crimes and atrocities, including our own: Afghanistan, Congo, WWII Germany, Guatamala, Iraq, Rwanda, Srebrenica, Vietnam, and the search for justice arising from them. At the end of it was the credit of the writer, producer, and director—all the same person. The person? To my great surprise: Jonathan Silvers, former member of the NYCC.

Read some of what he has done:
