If you get a message about an NYCC sharing a document with you: DO NOT CLICK IT

Submitted by peter.waltman@g... on Wed, 05/03/2017 - 3:49pm

It appears to be some sort of spear-phishing attack that I and a few other people have accidentally clicked on (it looks genuine).

In my case, my wife said that she got an email "from" me within minutes. I'm not sure if this is an issue for those without gmail accounts, but do not click the link if you've gotten a message that I have "shared" a document with you, and set yourself up with 2-factor authentication ASAP.

UPDATE: This is an article describing the attack: https://arstechnica.com/security/2017/05/google-docs-phish-worm-grabs-yo... Thanks to Mrunal for the link

Who has white cycling shoes?

Submitted by velofellow on Wed, 05/03/2017 - 3:47pm

I am in the market for a new pair of cycling shoes and am toying with the idea of getting a white pair.  Obviously, fit and price are more important than color, but maybe I'm just getting a little bored with basic black.  (Neon green or orange shoes are right out.)  Are they hard to clean after getting caught a nasty downpour?  Do nylon mesh areas come clean?  Thanks.

Volunteers for Newcomers (June 10) Set up, Serve and Clean up Crew RIDE

Submitted by RRGilbert on Tue, 05/02/2017 - 10:38pm

I need a ride leader to post and manage the ride of volunteers to Pascask Park in Westwood, NJ.  The crew will need to come alittle early to help with set up, help serve the food and then clean up.  I would need about 6-8 in the crew.  Thank you!!

I understand it takes a small army of people (and thousands of emails) to put together the SIGs and STSss in the Spring. Sometimes iffy weather and last minute things happen which can make for a complicated situation even more fluid.

I also want to say thank you for the organizers, leaders and members that make it happen. There are many pieces to juggle and sometimes there is a shortage of leaders at the lower levels.

In the future, please post a short message to this club message board in addition to sending out emails to participants. Especially if the ride is still listed (and open) on the ride board. Sometimes other veterans can step in and help.

Alpine Hill status update: Morning, May 1, 2017

Submitted by GYang on Mon, 05/01/2017 - 9:07am

A small group of us rode up 9W to try out the newly repaired Alpine Approach Road this morning. About 500 feet downhill from the police station we found barriers and a sign saying the road is closed (including no bikes).

I was a bit puzzled since I had called the Palisades Park Police Sunday evening and was told that Alpine Approach was open.

As we debated what to do a patrol car drove down from the station and told us that we weren't allowed to go down the hill (although if we had been a minute faster and gone through before he got there he wouldn't have cared). He said he wouldn't give us a ticket even if we went down, but he said that another officer might choose to ticket us.
