Saturday's City Island ride is postponed to Sunday
The weather forecast for Saturday is grim so we're postponing. We're also changing it from a B15 to a C14.
Cuomo bridge bike paths lowers speed limit from 15 to 5 mph near overlooks
Not such a good idea IMHO. Cyclists apparently must slow and speed up +/- 33% several times. There have been many more children (riding tricycles, etc.) than on other area bridges. Instead they could have had special early daytime hours for youngsters.
Thoughts on NYC Velo packaged tune up service?
Happy Friday, I have a twofer:
1) Does anyone have any experience with the "deluxe tune up" from NYC Velo? The price seems fair for the services in that package deal.1
2) I've typically done my own adjustments, but I can't seem to dial in a comfortable position on my bike lately. I'm not sure if I may need to eventually move to a more modern, compact frame geometry, or if this is something a "bike fitting" can alleviate. Any anecdotal advice is appreciated.
Thanks!
Bikes on Trains, Ferries, Subways, etc
We've created a fairly comprehensive list of the various forms of public transportation that allow bikes, and where you can get from/to: https://nycc.org/cue-sheets/bike-public-transit. You can also find the link to this page in the Ride Library on the "Getting out of NYC" page or under the "Info" button at the top of any NYCC.org page (click on Guides & Guidelines). We've included links within the list so you can easily get more information about traveling with your bike.
We know you may not be interested in taking public transportation right now, but there's no time like the present to start planning all the places you can go once things clear up.

Rosenthal v. PIPC/Alpine cops: Part II
We're in the parking lot of the PIPC HQ at the end of River Road. I very carefully place my bike in front of and mostly between two private vehicles, both of which have window decals announcing to (other) police they shouldn't be ticketed for illegal parking, et al. because they are in some fraternal police org. My front tire is touching the bumper of a truck, the rear tire is touching the bumper of a car.
Here comes Cop #1 telling me to move my bike. I do.
Now, 5 mins. later, here comes Cop #2, in his patrol car, turning up and into us. He alights in his battle fatigues (I think bullet proof vest) and remonstrates me over and over and over for leaning my bike against his truck. I ask, "You come in from the highway for this?"
The oddest cyclist I've ever seen on the GWB
Liviu G. says it was a woman. I thought it was a man. In either event s/he is walking, pushing his-her bike with one hand, holding an open umbrella over his-her head against the heat of the sun with the other hand, and walking, eyes down, focused on reading an open book as s/he walks...holding the book with, what?, a third and fourth hand?

Change in NYCC COVID-19 Guidelines
At last night's board meeting, the board approved a change in the COVID-19 guidelines. The quick summary:
- We are NOW allowing rides of 6 riders and 2 leaders (6+2) and 3 riders and 1 leader (3+1).
- Rides starting from the same starting point, can depart within 15 minutes of each other. The faster ride needs to head out first.
- Multiple rides are allowed to take the same Staten Island Ferry departure, provided that they disperse to different sections of the ship.
